There is a lot of speculation surrounding the upcoming adaptation- Hot Bamee and Yummy Gyoyung, the latest kid on the block. A gourmet romance with spicy flavors, the show is touted as the next big deal after author Jamie’s previous adaptation “My Secret Love The Series” was met with positive response and applause. As such, the excitement surrounding the lead couple is understandable, and fans are dying to catch a glimpse of their chemistry.

For those who are unaware about the storyline, Hot Bamee and Yummy Gyoyung is about an intern who develops feelings for his trainer and makes every effort to gain his affection. The storyline has a comedic flair, which coupled with an unbelievably erotic edge is meant to elevate your senses. In the midst of their busy schedule, we caught up with actors Boat Yongyut and Nutt Witsarut who will be portraying the main characters, Bamee and Gyoyung. We sat down for an interesting telltale conversation with the handsome pair, and their enthusiasm is infectious. Join us as we talk to them about their personal and professional lives!

Questions for Boat Yongyut

1) Last year was surprisingly good, you were in the spotlight for your debut role, Tim (My Secret Love The Series) and now you are starring as the main lead, Bamee in upcoming adaptation “Hot Bamee and Yummy Gyogung”? Overwhelmed, excited or nervous?

Boat: จริงๆ ทั้งตื่นเต้น ทั้ง ประหม่า เลยครับ ที่ตื่นเต้นเพราะว่าเป็นครั้งแรกที่ตัวเองจะได้เป็นนักแสดงนำในเรื่อง และประหม่า เพราะว่า การที่เราเป็นนักแสดงนำเราจะต้องทำงานอย่างหนัก เพราะนักแสดงนำคือคนที่จะทำหน้าที่เดินเส้นเรื่อง และ อาจจะถูกคาดหวังจากคนดูครับ

Boat: I’m both excited and nervous about playing the series’ lead role for the first time because it will require a lot of preparation. Considering that the lead actor is the one who will portray the storyline and from whom the audiences may have expectations.

2) Both roles are significantly different. Tim is sophisticated and has an exuberant aura, while Bamee seems to be hot and flirtatious. What kind of mindset will you adopt to portray these viable differences?

Boat: For me, I think we shouldn’t be attached to any character. Because, being an actor, we have to be someone else. I am ready to be both characters, Tim and Bamee.

Questions for Nutt Witsarut

1) People loved watching you in “Secret Crush on You”. We were a huge fan as well. Playing a trans character isn’t easy. Daisy was flamboyant, bold, and endearing. How did you relate to her personality?

คนดูชอบคุณในซีรีส์ Secret Crush on You มาก ฉันเองก็เป็นแฟนตัวยงเช่นกัน การเล่นตัวละครทรานส์ไม่ใช่เรื่องง่าย เดซี่มีสีสัน กล้าหาญ และเป็นที่รัก คุณเกี่ยวพันกับบุคลิกของเธออย่างไรบ้างไหม

Nutt: เดซี่เป็นคนคิดบวกเหมือนนัท เป็นคนที่ไม่ค่อยกังวลเกี่ยวกับการแสดงออกทางสังคม แต่ในพาร์ทที่อยู่คนเดียวบางครั้งก็เป็นคนที่ไม่ค่อยมั่นใจในตัวเองเท่าไหร่ และอ่อนเรื่องความรัก

Nutt: Daisy is positive like me; someone who is less concerned with social expression, yet, when alone, occasionally lacks confidence in herself and has few romantic encounters.

2) You will be starring as the main lead, Gyogung, in “Hot Bamee and Yummy Gyogung”. Have you read the novel by any chance? How are you preparing yourself to play this role?

Nutt: เคยอ่านคอมมิคและนิยายบางส่วน การได้รับบทเกี๊ยวกุ้งเป็นบทที่ทรงเกียรติ ดีใจที่ได้ถูกเลือกมาเป็นส่วนหนึ่งของนิยายเรื่องนี้ ช่วงนี้ก็จะเตรียมตัวละครจากการศึกษางานโรงแรม และดูซีรีส์วายเรื่องที่เกี่ยวกับพนักงานออฟฟิศ รวมทั้งฝึกการแอคติ้งจากในยูทูปครับ

Nutt: I’ve read both the rewritten novel and the comics. Being Gyogung is a respectable job to play. I’m honoured to have been included in this novel (adaptation). I’ll prepare the characters during this period by researching about hotel jobs, watching BL series related to office workers, and watching acting videos on YouTube.

Couple Interview Questions

1) Tell us more about yourself and your background? Why did you choose to act as a profession?

Nutt: ทำธุรกิจส่วนตัวครับ สาเหตุที่มาเล่นซีรีส์เพราะเจอผู้จัดการคนนึงครับเค้าทาบทามมาให้ลองเล่นดู พอได้เล่นเลยรู้สึกชอบและหลงใหลในศาสตร์การแสดง

Nutt: I have my own business. I met an actor manager who asked me to try out for the role, which is how I ended up playing (the role of Daisy) in my first series. I was inspired by the art of acting as I was portraying it.

Boat: ผมเริ่มเข้ามาเป็นนักแสดงโดยที่ตัวเองไม่เคยคิดว่าอยากจะเป็นมาก่อนครับ ผมเริ่มจากการประกวด และแคสติ้งนายแบบมาเรื่อยๆ จะวันนึงมีเปิดแคสติ้งซีรีส์ ผมก็คิดว่าน่าจะเป็นการเปิดโลกดีถ้าหากได้เป็นนักแสดงสักครั้ง แล้วพอผมได้ทำงานเป็นนักแสดง มันก็ทำให้ผมสนุกกับมันมาก เพราะการได้เจอกับผู้คน ทั้งที่เป็นเพื่อนร่วมงาน และ คาแรคเตอร์ที่ผมรับบทซึ่งผมถือว่าเค้าเป็นคนอีกคนนึงที่ผมได้รู้จักเหมือนกัน

Boat: I never believed I was interested in becoming an actor until I actually became one. I began by participating in a contest and then was cast as a model. There was an open casting call one day. If I could become an actor once, I believed it would be a nice way to enter the entertainment world. Then, when I started working as an actor, I really enjoyed it because I got to know more people – both as a coworker and in the capacity of the roles I played- whom I actually think of as a second person I got introduced to.

2) As a BL series, your show tackles themes that concern the LGBTQAI community. What are your personal views about these types of relationships?

Nutt: People should be more aware of the LGBTQAI group. Discrimination in law and society, both in Thailand and elsewhere, should be acknowledged and respected.

Boat: ธีมเกี่ยวกับชุมชนของซีรีส์วายของผมคือ “ความเป็นมนุษย์” คือ ทุกคนเป็นมนุษย์เหมือนกัน ใช้ชีวิต มีความรัก มีความสุข ได้เหมือนกันเพราะฉะนั้นการมีคำนิยามของเพศ สำหรับผมไม่ได้เป็นการทำให้ใครเท่ากัน ผมอยากให้ทุกคนมองคนอื่นอย่างไม่มีคำนิยามทางเพศเหล่านั้น แต่ให้มองว่าทุกคนเป็นมนุษย์เหมือนกัน ผมว่าโลกนี้จะมีความสุขมากขึ้นเพราะเราไม่ต้องตัดสินกันว่าใครเป็นอะไร

Boat: “The communal subject of my BL series is “Humanity,” which refers to the idea that everyone as a human being experience life, love, and happiness in the same manner. So for me, defining gender is not about achieving equality for anyone. I want everyone to view others without (any) regard to gender stereotypes. But let’s not forget that everyone is also human. If we don’t have to categorize people, I believe that everyone will be happier.”

3) Can you share some more titbits about your character roles and how you got selected for the same?

Nutt: รับบทเกี๊ยวกุ้ง เป็น Training Coordinator ในโรงแรม เกี๊ยวกุ้งเป็นคนที่เงียบๆ ไม่ค่อยแสดงออก ตั้งใจทำงานมากๆ ส่วนนัทได้รับบทเกี๊ยวกุ้งตอนไปแคสติ้งครับ ไม่รู้ว่าเพราะอะไรแต่จำได้ว่าวันนั้นเราไม่มีความกังวลอะไรเลยครับ พยายามเล่นเป็นตัวเองที่สุดและทำทุกอย่างให้เต็มที่

Nutt: I’m playing Gyogung, a hotel training coordinator. Gyogung is quite modest and diligent at work. I attended the casting call and was later offered the part. I don’t know why, but I seem to recall that day as being free of all concerns. I try my best to be myself and accomplish whatever I can.

Boat: ทำการบ้านเยอะๆ เช่น หากซีรีส์ที่คุณแสดงถูกสร้างมาจาก นิยาย เราก็ควรอ่านนิยายเพื่อทำการศึกษาตัวละคร หรือถ้า ซีรีส์ถูกสร้างขึ้นมาโดยการถูกเขียนจากนักเขียนบท ก็ควรอ่านบทหลายๆครั้ง และ หาตัวละครเปรียบเทียบจากหนังเรื่องอื่นๆ เพื่อให้เห็นภาพคาแรคเตอร์ตัวละครมากขึ้น

Boat: I did a lot of homework. For example, if the TV series you star in is based on a novel, we should read the novel to learn more about the characters. If there are additional characters, the script should be read numerous times while keeping an eye out for characters from other movies that could be used for comparison.

4) In your own little way, how can you be a representation of these characters, and how will you portray the idea that “Love is love and is beyond gender”?

Nutt: Love is about two individuals. Gender is not an issue. The only factors that affect gender are societal norms. I believe it is their right if a couple loves each other regardless of gender; you almost shouldn’t concentrate on sexuality.

Boat: ผมก็คงจะใช้ประโยคเดิมครับว่า “ความเป็นมนุษย์” ทุกคนมองกันอย่างไร้คำนิยามทางเพศมองกันเพียงว่าเราเป็นมนุษย์ เหมือนกัน แต่ทั้งหมดต้องขึ้นอยู่กับ มายเซ็ทของทุกคนที่อยากจะให้สังคมของเราดีขึ้น มองกันอย่างเท่าเทียมมากขึ้น

Boat: That same word, “Humanity,” is probably what I’d say. Without defining gender, everyone simply acknowledges that we are all humans when they look at one another. Yet if anyone wants to improve our society, they must all embrace a more equal perspective.

5) You both seem to have a very cute and adorable chemistry? The characters you portray require a huge deal of mutual understanding. How comfortable are you with each other?

คุณทั้งคู่ดูมีเคมีที่น่ารักและน่าเอ็นดูมาก ๆ ตัวละครที่คุณแสดงต้องใช้ความเข้าใจซึ่งกันและกันเป็นอย่างมาก คุณสบายใจในการเข้าคู่กันแค่ไหน

Nutt: เราค่อนข้างสนิทกันมาก ถึงแม้แค่จะรู้จักในเวลาสั้นๆ พี่โบ๊ทเป็นคนที่ easy going มากๆ เป็นผู้รับฟังที่ดี ในขณะที่เราก็ชอบถามความเห็นและความรู้สึกของเขาตลอด ทำให้ใช้เวลาในการ ice breaking ค่อนข้างน้อย ทำให้คิดว่าในการเข้าคู่แสดงซีรีส์ร่วมกันนั้นไม่น่าจะมีปัญหาอะไรครับ

Nutt: Despite the fact that we have only recently become friends, we are rather close. P’Boat is a very easy-going individual with excellent communication skills. While I enjoy learning about his opinions and feelings, ice-breaking takes no time at all. So I have no doubt that there won’t be any issues with matching (our opinions) and acting together in the series.

Boat: สบายใจมากครับ นัทเป็นตัวของตัวเอง และผมก็เป็นตัวของตัวเอง เราสองคนไม่ได้มีกำแพงต่อกัน ไม่ว่าจะทำงานหรือไม่ เราก็สามารถทำกิจกรรมต่างๆ ร่วมกันได้อย่างสบายใจ

Boat: We are very comfortable with one another. Nut is being Nut, and I am being me. We don’t have any barriers between us. We can comfortably engage in a variety of things together, whether or not it is related to work.

6) Once the shows air, you will be famous as a BL couple. How are you going to handle the subsequent attention and fame?

เมื่อซีรีส์ออกอากาศแล้ว คุณสองคนจะมีชื่อเสียงในฐานะคู่รัก BL คุณจะจัดการกับความสนใจและชื่อเสียงที่ตามมาอย่างไร

Nutt: คิดว่าน่าจะทำตัวเหมือนเดิมครับ เพราะนัทคิดว่าคนรักเราที่เราเป็นเรา สิ่งที่เป็นเราสามารถมอบความสุขให้ทุกๆคนได้ ดังนั้นไม่น่าจะต้องปรับตัวมาก ส่วนที่ต้องปรับก็อาจจะต้อง keep in touch กับผู้คนมากขึ้นซึ่งไม่ใช่ปัญหาอะไรเลยครับ กลับกันอยากจะขอบคุณแฟนๆทุกคนมากกว่าครับที่ทำให้นัทมีทุกๆวันนี้ได้

Nutt: I believe I would behave similarly. I believe that people appreciate me for who I am. The thing is, I can make everyone happy, so I shouldn’t have to make too many adjustments. That won’t be a problem at all if the component that has to be altered needs to be communication with more people. On the other hand, I want to thank the supporters. I have what I have today because of everyone.

Boat: คุณแม่ของผมบอกผมเสมอครับ ว่าไม่ว่าเราจะอยู่จุดไหน เราอย่าลืมตัวเองว่าเราเคยเป็นใคร มีที่มายังไง และแน่นอน ต่อให้ผมมีชื่อเสียงยังไงผมก็จะเป็นตัวของตัวเอง เพราะผมมีความสุขที่ผมเป็นตัวเองทุกวันนี้ครับ

Boat: No matter where we go, my mum always said that we should never forget who we are or where we came from. Of course, I’ll always be myself, regardless of how well-known I am. I’m glad to be who I am today.

7) Will you both continue to work in more BL dramas? If yes, then what kind of scripts will interest you?

คุณทั้งคู่จะทำงานในวงการ BL ต่อไปหรือไม่ ถ้าใช่ คุณจะสนใจบทประเภทใด

Nutt: แน่นอนครับ อาจจะเป็นแนวดราม่า, เอาชีวิตรอด หรือตัวละครที่มีหลากหลายมิติอารมณ์ครับ

Nutt: Undoubtedly, it may be a drama, a survival story, or a character with a variety of emotions.

Boat: ถ้ามีโอกาสก็ทำต่อไปแน่นอนครับ แต่ถ้าถามว่าบทประเภทไหนที่สนใจ ก็เป็นบทบู๊ครับ ผมว่ามันท้าทายและมีความยากของมันอยู่ ในเรื่องของการเคลื่อนไหว และการทำงานเป็นทีมกับคู่บู๊ มันคงยากมาก แต่คงทำให้ตัวผมพัฒนาขึ้นได้ไม่มากก็น้อย

Boat: I will undoubtedly keep acting (in the BL industry), if there is an opportunity. I want to try out for an action/blockbuster series. I think it will be demanding and difficult. Also, although it would be extremely challenging, working as a team with an opponent would enable me to improve somewhat.

8) As young Thai actors, what is your message to the international BL community? What do you want people to know about you?

ในฐานะนักแสดงชาวไทย คุณอยากฝากอะไรถึงกลุ่ม BL ในต่างประเทศบ้าง คุณต้องการให้คนอื่นรู้อะไรเกี่ยวกับคุณบ้าง

Nutt: อยากจะขอบคุณมากๆครับที่สนับสนุนและซัพพอร์ท ถ้าไม่มีแฟนๆชาวต่างชาติคอยซัพพอร์ท ก็จะไม่มีนัทในวันนี้ครับ ขอบคุณจากใจครับ ฝากน้องบะหมี่พี่เกี๊ยวกุ้งด้วยนะครับ
