Fireworks of Yesteryear

Starring Ni Jia as Peng Yun and He Lei in the role of Ji Qingqing, the film has a runtime of 30-40 minutes. GL genre is slowly gaining favor in the Chinese industry, which is hugely male dominated; last year’s “Couple of Mirror” being the best example of the same.

The Lovers

After watching tones of Boy’s Love anime/Donghua (mostly from Chinese, Japanese or Korean shores), it’s time for some Filipino magic. Studio Heartbreak has announced their upcoming venture. Titled “The Lovers”, the animated short film is a fantasy romance set in the Philippines about a mermaid and a seafood chef. The recently released teaser looks promising enough. Main trailer and details relative to the kickstarter will be released on 9th May, 2023.

The Ultimatum: Queer Love

If you are into dating reality shows, then Netflix’s “The Ultimatum: Queer Love” should be your next stop. Sequel to Netflix hugely popular dramedy “The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On”, the show features five queer couples- women, bisexuals and nonbinary. Their primary goal- to propose to their lover, get married or call it quits. Being hosted by Joanna Garcia Swisher, the show will be focusing on the darker underbelly of relationships. While inclusivity seems to be the central theme, the contestants will be allowed to date multiple partners and make their choice. The theme seems quite similar to the recently on-air Korean reality show “His Man”; the only difference being that the contestants here are already in committed relationships, seeking a sort of permanency. The show is set to premiere on 24th May, 2024.
