“La Pluie The Series” First Impressions (Ep.1 to 3)

In an alternate universe where Thailand is perpetually rainy and soulmates exist, La Pluie traces the story of Tai, who suffers from sensorineural hearing loss every time it rains. The only voice he can hear then is that of his soulmate, but he is adamant about not giving said soulmate a chance due to having seen his parents’ (who are also soulmates) relationship deteriorate.

“What Did You Eat Yesterday” Series Review (Ep.1 to 12)

What Did You Eat Yesterday also called Kinou Nani Tabeta? is a Japanese BL comedy series about a live-in gay couple and their daily life activities. The main leads are a mature couple who are in their 40s, enjoy eating and cooking together a lot. Shiro (Hidetoshi Nishijima) and Kenji (Seiyou Uchino) are emotionally stable, normal gay couple. Both leads are strong and adorable in their own way.

My All-Time Favorite Pinoy BL Dramas

If you are obsessed with the Boys’ Love genre, there is a fair chance that you have watched dramas from the Filipino shores. Popularly known as Pinoy BL, the industry slowly evolved during the unfortunate happenstance of the Covid-19 pandemic. While local governments were clamoring to keep the pandemic under control, major production houses were shut down and shootings were halted. In the midst of this mayhem, Filipino media giants, Idea First Company & Black Sheep choose to script history with their “out-of-the-box” web series- Gameboys The Series & Hello Stranger, heralding this new genre into existence. It’s been a couple of years since then and Pinoy BL dramas/movies are now a commonplace phenomenon. Trying to bank on the success of their predecessors, the industry has seen an unprecedented increase in the number of shows released per year; the quality is although questionable. Today, we will be talking about those few shows that were not only phenomenally scripted but brilliantly executed!

“Midnight Love” Movie Review

This mini-movie appears to be more like an ‘after-school’ project and perhaps held together with chewing gum and glue. This is never going to win any awards nor be on any top 10 list. However, it did do something for me that so many BLs, especially Thai, do not do for me anymore. And that is, it made me smile. It made my eyes tear up. It also made me reflect. Further, it made me see how so, so many everyday ordinary gay relationships begin. This gem captured the heart and soul of a humanity that is not often portrayed. A humanity of individuals whose beauty lies within, not without, whose goodness is inherent, not extrinsic, and whose fortitude is who they are. It is a story of genuineness and strength of character. It is a story of life. And most importantly, it is a simple, basic story of love.
