“Crazy Handsome Rich” First Impressions (Ep.1 & 2)

“Crazy Handsome Rich” is a series like no other. First off, this was supposed to be a dubbed series so the voices are a bit off and it makes for an unpleasant experience. As such, the dubbing sound effects and background score during scenes are also hindered. Despite these flaws, the show is set in a more mature atmosphere which is very refreshing.

The show introduces Luv (Frank Thanatsaran) as the main lead, as he is working at his family’s vegetable stall in the marketplace. Butler Sorn (Pak Papungkorn) seems to be their regular customer. Sorn is working as a butler for an affluent family. One day, Sorn shows up with his younger brother, Sin (Pak Chavitpong), who is supposed to replace him as the next butler. Unfortunately, they end up having an argument in front of Luv’s stall and Sin runs away because he doesn’t want to work as a butler. Left with no other choice, Sorn begs Luv to take his brother’s place until he finds him. He offers a huge compensation and Luv readily agrees. Now, before Luv takes over his new duties, he visits a psychic and is given a necklace with a key. He is told that when he finds the lock and opens it, he will meet his soulmate. He should be prepared to handle his fate, though. The psychic makes this sound very ominous.

We are also introduced to Chan (Rin Sarin), who is Luv’s brother, but not blood. It seems Luv was brought to live with Chan and his family after a tragedy hit Luv’s family. Also, it seems like Chan likes Luv but Luv only sees him as a brother.

On the day, Sin comes to pick up Luv, he gets to meet the three handsome men he will be tending to: Thad (Lee Long Shi), Thep (Joseph Pharmtharm) and Thod (Nueng Suriyon). From that moment, things get very interesting. There are strict rules in this home- No woman can be brought into the home, therefore Luv must prove he is a man and is asked to remove his clothes (to prove he is not female). Thad seems to be interested in Luv and is not shy about making it known. In fact, he is blatantly obvious in seizing every chance he gets. The scared look on Luv’s face is adorable, but it is mostly followed by the look which says that “I like what I see”.

The varied characters make it interesting to watch. I am excited to see which brother’s lock holds Luv’s key. While the concept does seem intriguing, we cannot get the full experience as the dubbing gets in the way. OST is good and I do like the music; maybe they will re-release without dubbing.

There are eight more episodes to go and probably more characters will be added to this incredible show. I am excited to see where this goes as I am a huge fan of the director Sappakosol Supsavati’s works; “On Cloud Nine” being my favorite.
