“Love in Translation” Series Review (Ep.3 to 8)

“Love in Translation” is one of those BL dramas that I would definitely recommend to everyone. Am I saying this because it is a big production series? No. I will recommend it because I genuinely liked what the show was about. Only 10% of the BL shows released every year have a decent storyline that actually teaches us something valuable instead of just normal college life love stories and this is one of the dramas. The romantic aspect of the drama was nice, well-paced and not very cringeworthy (to be honest). It gave me a slice-of-life feeling, with the overall drama and romance developed on perfect pace in my point of view.

When we see something nice that we actually like, we tend to overlook the minor glitches or blunders. I think this happened to me, while I was watching this show. The show had too many plot holes, story blunders but what made it better was (despite the poor storytelling), how well the actors handled the show, how they added their own unique flavors to the characters. They didn’t have the most amazing chemistry, but that doesn’t mean that it was bad. No, on the contrary, it was really good, and it was what kept me hooked on the show. Yes, some of the plotline had no job or literally no meaning being on the show and some extra characters had annoying personalities that may have taken the show a bit downhill. But, overall it was a cute, fluffy, light-hearted romance that had some insane chemistry. You’ll know when you watch the show, and you can binge watch it in one day.

Initially, after doing the first impression of the show, I was kind of worried that future episode may ruin the future experience. But I liked it enough to keep going and even though there were a lot of personalities that were irritating, I watched the show for the main leads; which is exactly the reason why I felt disappointed with the rushed ending. The overall show has an interesting storyline that will keep you going. The comedy elements in the show were also good. I actually laughed, and the jokes weren’t too repetitive. Offroad does a good job as Phumjai. He portrays a character that a lot of people will relate to, the unserious, goofy kind of person. Daou Pittaya as Yang Yan plays the character of a sincere and genuine guy who knows what his priority is and what he wants with his life.

Even though the production was low budget, the series was good overall and can be watched once.
