Instead of their year end gala event in December, Thai media giant GMMTV decidedly announced the first part of their “2024 Lineup” yesterday. Like most of their events, it was star-studded, catapulting the fan’s anticipation to feverish levels. In the first part, the tech giant has ceremoniously pitched 9 Boys’ Love dramas alongside a GL adaptation. Without further ado, let’s talk about the different colors on this palette!
My Love Mix-Up!
Adapted from the manga “My Love Mix-Up!” (消えた初恋) written by Hinekure Wataru (ひねくれ渡) and illustrated by Aruko (アルコ); “My Love Mix-Up!” is the Thai remake of the popular teenage romance “Kieta Hatsukoi” starring Michieda Shunsuke and Meguro Ren in the lead roles of Aoki and Ida. GMMTV fan favorites Fourth Nattawat and Gemini Norawit will be reprising their roles as Atom & Kongthap. “Kieta Hatsukoi” was widely celebrated for the natural chemistry between the lead actors and quickly became a global phenomenon. As such, the need to remake this classic is understandable, but that means Gemini and Fourth have huge shoes to fill in. This is their third project together after “My School President” and “Midnight Chicken”. They were supposed to star in the upcoming GL “23.5”, but they bowed out of the project because of new commitments. “Kieta Hatsukoi” also featured an adorable supporting cast, with Fukumoto Riko playing Aoki’s confidant, Hashimoto and Suzuki Jin portrayed her love interest, Aida. In the Thai version, rookie actors Pahn Pathitta and Chokun Puttipong will be reprising their roles. Au Kornprom (“My School President” fame) will be helming this project as well. Here’s hoping the remake is as cute as the original!
Ossan’s Love Thailand
It was distinctly a day of remakes; as GMMTV announced that they will be remaking the immensely popular Japanese BL, “Ossan’s Love”. The original starred Tanaka Kei, Yoshida Kotaro and Ochiai Motoki in the lead roles of Haruta Soichi, Kurosawa Musashi and Hasegawa Yukiya. Recently, a sequel to the original was announced which is set to premiere in January, 2024. Hong Kong also featured a remake of the original in 2021 starring popular idols Edan Lui, Anson Lo alongside veteran actor Kenny Wong in the lead roles of Tin Yat Hung, Ling Siu Muk and KK. The Thai version will be featuring fan favorites, Earth Pirapat and Mix Sahaphap. This is their fourth project together after “A Tale of Thousand Stars”, “Cupid’s Last Wish” and “Moonlight Chicken”. Further details still under wraps.
Kidnap Series
“Bad Buddy Series” star Ohm Pawat is all set to star in his next BL drama, “Kidnap Series”. He will be starring alongside rookie actor Leng Thanaphon, who will be introduced with this project. Supporting cast includes Papang Phromphiriya, Title Kirati and Ohm Thipakorn. The show features Ohm as the main lead, Min who is desperate to raise money for his sick younger brother’s treatment. He is instructed to kidnap a wealthy heir played by Leng. What was supposed to be a simple kidnapping attempt takes a serious turn when the higher ups order Min to kill Leng. Unwilling to kill the younger man, Min decides to protect him by hiding him in his own house. As they live together, Leng discovers that Min needs money for his younger brother’s treatment. He proposes a dangerous counter plan and asks Min to demand ransom from his rich father. As both of them grow closer, Min’s higher ups discover the charade and decide to take matter in their own hands. How will Min safeguard Leng while protecting his younger brother?
Wandee Goodday
Adapted from the novel “Wandee Witthaya” (วันดีวิทยา) by Nottakorn (นทกร), “Wandee Goodday” stars Inn Sarin opposite Great Sapol. Inn Sarin was recently inducted into the GMMTV cader and it was obvious that he would star in an upcoming BL show. Sarin became extremely popular after starring in the fantasy drama “The Miracle of Teddy Bear”. On the other hand, Great Sapol became a household name after starring as Inspector M in the suspense thriller “Manner of Death”. His natural chemistry with MD Nutthapong (Dr. Oat) was much appreciated by the fans who wished to see them in another adaptation. Their wish remains a pipedream though. Fortunately, we will get to watch Great romance Sarin instead; and judging from their chemistry in the trailer, the house will be on fire for sure. Sarin plays the handsome surgeon, Wandee, who gets entangled with a hot-tempered boxer, Yeo-yak. Going from a “Friends with Benefits”, their relationship slowly morphs into something more meaningful and substantial. Thor Thinnaphan and Fluke Nattanon will be playing the supporting couple, Oye & Cherry.
My Golden Blood
GMMTV is blessing us with a vampire romance. Yes, you heard it right and what’s even more surprising is the cast. Featuring Joss Way-ar and Fluke Gawin in the lead roles of Mark and Tong, the show is a supernatural romance between a vampire and an ordinary human. There have been constant catcalls to feature Joss in a BL drama after he played the bisexual main lead in “3 Will Be Free”. Similarly, Gawin has been in news after his praiseworthy performances in “Be My Favorite” & “Not Me Series”. Joss will be playing the role of Mark, an immortal vampire, while Gawin plays Tong, a human being with golden blood; something that is coveted by vampires. How Mark struggles with his inner desires while fighting his attraction to Tong forms the crux of this story. Supporting cast includes Neo Trai and Mond Tanutchai.
Peaceful Property
One of those dramas that I’m looking forward to, simply because it is a hilarious romcom starring my favorite couple. “Dark Blue Kiss” couple Tay Tawan and New Thitipoom star as the main leads, Peach and Home in this upcoming horror comedy. Home is a rich heir who returns home from abroad to sell the properties bequeathed to him by his grandfather. Unfortunately, all those properties are currently listed as haunted because ghost hunter Pang Pang (Jan Ployshompoo) featured one of them in her videos. To make haste and sell those properties, Home decides to recruit Pang Pang and her brother Peach to exorcise ghosts. As they form a team, hilarious situations entail as Peach & Home grow closer. Tay and New are currently shooting for their Japanese adaptation, “Cherry Magic”, which is one of the most anticipated releases this year. Mook Worranit will be joining the cast as well.
We Are Series
An ensemble casting featuring four different BL pairings which include Pond Naravit (Phum), Phuwin Tangsakyuen (Pheem), Phuwin Tangsakyuen (Q), Satang Kittiphop (Toey), Aou Thanaboon, Boom Tharatorn, Marc Pahun and Pawin Kulkaranyawich. Helmed by veteran director, New Siwaj; “We Are Series” is based on the “Enemies to Lovers” trope. This is Pond-Phuwin’s third project after “Fish Upon the Sky” and “Never Let Me Go”. Phuwin & Satang will be starring as a couple for the second time after “My School President”. Aou and Boom will be playing a couple for the third time after “Vice Versa” and “Hidden Agenda”. Marc and Pawin have previously starred as a couple in “My Gear and Your Gown” and the currently on-air “Dangerous Romance”.
The Trainee Series
One of the longstanding couples in the GMMTV brigade, Gun Atthaphan and Off Jumpol, will be starring in their sixth project together (after Senior Secret Love: Puppy Honey S1 & S2, Theory of Love, Not Me and Cooking Crush). Their upcoming show “Cooking Crush” is currently in post production and might premiere in the latter half of 2023. “The Trainee” is a fuzzy, lighthearted office romance starring OffGun in the lead roles of Ryan and Jane. Supporting cast includes Poon Mitpakdee, View Benyapa, Sea Tawinan, Piploy Kanyarat, Kapook Phatchara, Pompam Niti and Emi Thasorn.
Only Boo Series
Another ensemble casting featuring rookie actors, Keen Suwijak and Sea Dechchart in the lead roles of Moo & Kaeng. Adapted from the novel “Khae Thi Kaeng” (แค่ที่แกง) by peachhplease, Kee’s Moo is obsessed with two things- the canteen boy, Kaeng and his passion for music. Kaeng initially resists Moo’s attempts to gain his attention, but soon loses the battle and falls for him. Things take an unexpected turn when Moo gets selected to be a part of a boy band. Unfortunately, their management doesn’t allow the boys to be in a relationship. Moo has to decide between the two great loves of his life? The trailer is really entertaining and the chemistry between the main leads is refreshing. Supporting cast include Book Kasidet, Aun Napat, Ashi Peerakan, Milk Pansa & Louis Thanawin. Definitely looking forward to this one!
Pluto Series
Following on the heels on their last GL project “23.5”, GMMTV announced their second GL adaptation “Pluto Series”. The show stars Namtan Tipnaree and Film Rachanun in the lead roles. Namtan will be playing the dual role of Ob-oom/Ai-oon; Film will be playing her love interest, May. Supporting cast Kapook Phatchara, Ciize Rutricha and Earn Preeyaphat will be in a love triangle. Thor Thinnaphan will also be joining the cast.
