“She Loves to Cook and She Loves to Eat Season 2” Series Review (Ep.5 to 20)

Love, Friendship and Delicious Meals

Adapted from the manga of the same name, this drama is very down to earth, close to the real life journey of two women experiencing love, friendship and growth together while cooking delicious meals. Similar to Season One, this season also focuses on relationship between Nomoto (Higa Manami) and Kasuga (Nishino Emi), how they have this really heartwarming relationship that started on basis of sharing delicious meals. In the sequel, new secondary characters were introduced that made the season more interesting, not adding anything negative or cliche but making the show more realistic and endearing.

The show doesn’t just focus on relationships but also the struggle faced by an individual suffering from phobias or those who are asexual. The show managed to show how amazing female friendship is, how supportive and loving they actually are. Yako (Tomosaka Rie) and Nagumo (Fujiyoshi Karin) are introduced as new characters who form invaluable bonds with Nomoto and Kasuga. While Yako is loner because of her asexual nature, Nagumo suffers from Deipnophobia. The show addresses both issues delicately as the four bond together and became close friends; the way, Nomoto, Kasuga and Yako understand Nagumo’s difficulty and never force her to eat while bringing her into their fold with them was commendable. The slow pace of the story doesn’t feel irritating and actually this slow burn growth is what kept me hooked to the show in both seasons. In other words, this is one of those dramas that is comforting and enjoyable!

On top of that, we also got a kiss between the main couple, which was kind of unexpected. Even if there was no kissing scene in this drama, it wouldn’t have mattered because irrespective of everything, the way they look at each other is enough for everyone to understand what they feel. There are really few dramas out there where we actually see women supporting women, creating a really healthy and empowering atmosphere.

Overall, the production was very simple, direction was good, the way they portrayed conversations between the main couple felt real and relatable. Every character in the show has their own storyline and their own individual struggles which made every character in the show relevant. The actors, plot line, dialogues, and background score were perfection redefined!
