Fresh BL/GL Dramas That Drew Intrigue (2024- 2025)

We talked about fresh pairings last weekend and got so caught up in fantasizing about their “Oomph” factor, that we totally forgot to recount the fresh releases in the first quarter. Some curated hits, anticipated premieres and hot scenes are currently driving the momentum. We are dying to share our opinions about the “Latest Hits in the Town”. So buckle your seat belt, you are in for a wild ride!

Top Form The Series

Presumably this show is being promoted on the basis of THAT one scene- Yes we are talking about the extremely hot “Honey Scene” which set tongues wagging and turned the anime adaptation into a phenomenon. The live-action is close on heels with the anime version with Smart Chisanupong & Boom Raweewit fast becoming a global sensation. For those who have watched the anime (like me), the live-action is quite similar. Even though it is being produced offshore by WeTv Thailand, the due diligence is commendable; there is no leniency in upping the spice quotient. Smart & Boom have an effervescent chemistry that adds volumes to the excellent storytelling. It’s literally like watching the anime come alive, everything from the detailing to execution is topnotch.

My Golden Blood

There is one thing that comes to my mind while watching this show- the twilight zone. Director Ark Saroj has making use of twinkling lights and camera angles to enhance Joss Way-ar’s facial features, it is almost ethereal. This certainly highlights his identity as a vampire, albeit a hot and handsome one. Also, it pretty much explains why Gawin Caskey’s Tong goes point-blank whenever Mark gazes at him with love & adoration. Their chemistry is everything but that doesn’t mean the script is bad. The storytelling is evenly paced, never a dull moment; even though 90% of the script revolves around the main leads. You don’t get bored, because Tong’s hysterics are epic and Mark has the patience of a saint. Our grumpy human is rubbing him off and our hot vampire is becoming more humane.

Perfect 10 Liners

Have you seen a potboiler that has everything- ForceBook’s spicy romance, PerthSanta’s adorable chemistry & JuniorMark’s endearing camaraderie. Three different flavors in the same show, that’s what makes life more entertaining. The motley gang, their love stories and budding friendships span across 24 episodes. While we are already used to Force Jiratchapong and Book Kasidet’s sensual chemistry, their ArmArc are grumpy, clingy and possessive. Perth Tanapon and Santa Pongsapak’s first outing as a pairing brings a fresh chemistry to the table that is equal parts sweet and enviable. Junior Panachai and Mark Jiruntanin are the mature couple, they have a deep understanding of their roles and an exuberant chemistry that is incomparable. The storytelling is off-the-charts, the humor is endlessly entertaining and there is never a dull moment while watching this show; especially when the friends go berserk!

I’m Your Moon

I was pretty excited about watching this reincarnation saga (after Until We Meet Again) and the excitement hasn’t dimmed a bit. Starring Sprite Itaree & Piano Pronyanee in lead roles, the story spans across a century where the leads are born in two different eras- once as Princesses and in the next life, as their descendants. You aren’t ready for the ensuing chaos and twists; since Princess Phiangrawi & Princess Sasinapha are reborn as heiresses to feuding royal families. Every though times have changed and same sex relationships are acceptable, their family enmity becomes the constraint separating them; unbeknownst to them, their past lives being the very reason for this rivalry. While Prey is naive, sweet and innocent, Earl is reserved, business oriented and detached. How will these two lost souls reunite under family pressure? That remains to be seen but I’m loving the storyline and the chemistry between the main leads is stunning!

Heesu in Class 2

Two bewildering teenagers finding their course through love, relationships and heartbreak. The storyline focuses on 18-year-old Hee Su, an ordinary high school student who considers himself a “dating expert,” though he has never been in a relationship. Secretly, he harbors feelings for his best friend of ten years, Chan Yeong, but keeps this heavy secret to himself. Meanwhile, their class president Seung Won also nurses a secret crush on Hee Su. The dynamics between these characters is enjoyable; with Hee Su being completely oblivious to Seung Won’s affections. Poor Seung Won is so bad at flirting that his attempts to seek Hee Su’s attention are pretty much lame and poorly executed. It is almost laughable; Ahn Ji Ho & Lee Sang Jun are upcoming stars in the Korean industry and their camaraderie works in the favor of the storyline!

When It Rains, It Pours

Literally one of the hottest adaptation in the recent times, “When It Rains, It Pours” stars an intriguing casting and even better storytelling. There are very few adaptations that can actually capture the very essence of the original source, but this show does. The storyline is focused on lack of intimacy,; main leads Hagiwara Kazuaki & Nakarai Sei have been living a celibate life, despite having partners. While Kazuaki’s girlfriend avoids having sex with him, Sei’s longtime friend isn’t even ready to name their relationship. Caught in a cycle of redressal and sexual frustration, Kazuaki and Sei exchange emails without knowing each other’s real identity. The story flows seamlessly as they share intimate details and form a connection. Their bonding grows deeper when they recognize each other. Ito Asahi & Muto Jun have a raw synergy, it was beautiful and vibrant. The scriptwriters need to be lauded for the detailing that exceeds your expectations!

Secret Relationships

Possibly the most hyped Korean adaptation in a long time, “Secret Relationships” thrives and breeds on toxic relationships. The four main leads are entangled in a recurring cycle of betrayal, deception and obsession. The foreboding is epic because three different people have their sights set on Jung Da On (Kim Jun Seo); Jaemin (Kim Ho Young) literally wants to own him, Soohyun (Cha Jung Woo) wants to force his feelings on him while good old Ju Seong Hyeon (Cha Sun Hyung) just wants to protect Da- On. I love how the story doesn’t shy away from depicting the liaisons in the webtoon; each of the actors portray their characters with tenacity that remains true to the original source. Adaptations are never easy but when you have a talented casting like these four, then we are definitely looking towards a global phenomenon in making!

Await our next, exciting feature on Sunday!
