Painter of the Night
The popular webtoon ‘Painter of the Night’ is being adapted as a short-form drama. According to multiple sources, the production house is currently conducting actor auditions and pre-production with the goal of filming in June.
The drama is based on the webtoon of the same name by writer Byeon duck. Set in the Joseon Dynasty, it tells the story of the nobleman Yoon Seung-ho being attracted to the erotic painting collection of the commoner Baek Na-gyeom. It will be adapted as a short-form drama with about 2 minutes per episode. The show will be jointly produced by Kidari Studio and Lezhin Entertainment, which own the copyrights. Director Choi Bo-kyung, who directed ‘Ants Are Riding’ and co-directed ‘Divorce Insurance’, will be directing.
It will be produced for ages 15 and above. However, since the original is an adult BL webtoon, some episodes will be produced with a rating of 15 or higher. The original webtoon is a popular work that began serialization on Lezhin Comics in 2019 and has been loved up to Season 4 and a spin-off. It has never missed the top spot in the ranking of BL webtoons serialized on Lezhin Comics for 5 years.
Many fans have been waiting for a live-action version of the webtoon for a long time. In the midst of this, attention is expected to be focused on the news of the production of the drama. The release platform for the short-form drama are currently being discussed.
