Current Favorites In My Watchlist

June is the month of Pride, people flocking the streets, expressing their love and support for the LGBTQ community. So, how could the BL world be left behind? We have some flavorful romances in stock that are literally riveting audiences. Since we are in BL heaven, I’m desperate to share my current favorites.

Boys in Love

I’m not a huge fan of high school teenage romances, because they need to handled tacitly. If not, they might turn into an upward disaster. So, I wasn’t expecting much before tuning into GMMTV’s new project “Boys in Love”. With an entirely new casting that comprises quite a few rookie actors, I was apprehensive of the storytelling. Frankly, GMMTV nailed it, and they have overcome my doubts. I fell in love with the budding romance brewing between the clueless yet intelligent Shane (Mick Metas) and the very naughty Kit (Luke Peemsan). Chokun Puttipong’s Kim & Aston Ratiphat’s Mon are literally the “Dream Couple” and my current obsession. I’m loving every bit of this high school love story!

My Stubborn

MFlow Entertainment’s are always sensuality fueled but without much substance. So I was expecting only two things from this show- sex and more sex. And the show delivered; “My Stubborn” has two very stubborn characters who are absolutely obsessed with each other but don’t want to accept their feelings. At least, Sorn (Boat Yongyut). His “Friends with Benefits” relationship with his best friend’s younger brother, Oat (Oat Pasakorn) seems unlikely, but they are totally into each other. They gravitate towards each other like moth finds the flame; they have no excuse for the excessive sex scenes that we are treated to in each episode. The other two couples aren’t that intriguing but the main couple make up for that, so you don’t feel slighted. Watch this show with headphones on because you never know when Sorn & Jun will start kissing or do more!

My Sweetheart Jom

A young man who acts like a kid and refuses to grow up, gets entangled with a countryside disciplined village Chief; this snippet pretty much summarizes the premise of Idol Factory’s much anticipated romance. Promoted as Saint Suppapong’s comeback vehicle, avid fans has huge expectations from “My Sweetheart Jom” and they delivered. Stepping into the shoes of their last successful venture “The Sign”, “My Sweetheart Jom” is a simple yet meaningful romance. It focuses on the main lead Yothin’s (Poom Nuttapart) as he stems past his childhood antics and learns to be more responsible while falling in love with the very mature yet lovable Chief Jom. They make an unlikely match; Yothin doesn’t think much before he acts while Jom has a subdued personality. They are completely opposite yet watching them fall in love is a magical experience!

Pit Babe Season 2

The second season of this highly anticipated sports drama returns with a bang; each episode will leave you with screaming with joy or anxiety. Babe (Pavel Naret) and Charlie (Pooh Krittin) struggle to stay together as the scrupulous third angle, Willy (Milk Natchanon) does everything to sabotage their relationship. Jeff (Pon Thanapon) is having huge issues as his powers have been amplified, and they are harming his health while Alan (Sailub Hemmawich) is restless unable to do anything. Way’s doppelganger Chris (Nut Supanut) makes a grand entrance and immediately gets involved with Pete (Ping Orbnithi) who is still hung up on his ex- flame. Kenta (Garfield Pantach) is released from the prison and to safeguard him, Kenta seeks help from Kim (Benz Atthanin), presumably they end up falling in love. North (Michael Kiettisak) & Sonic (TopTen Supakorn) are still dancing around each other, unable to confess their feelings. On top on this turmoil, Tony (S Vorarit) has returned and is conducting his own backhanded experiments.

The Ex-Morning

The veterans are back, and they are teaching everyone why they are the “Kings of Romance”. After being away for almost three years, I wasn’t sure if Krist Perawat & Singto Prachaya will have the same chemistry as before. The show clearly banks on their irrefutable camaraderie, and they deliver. Singto & Krist go above and beyond their past performances scripting a somber romance that is equal parts engaging and yet angsty. Phi & Tam were college sweethearts who entered the same company to achieve their dreams. Unfortunately, Tam breaks up with Phi on the most important day in his life and that leaves Phi deeply wounded. His cheerful personality changes, and he turns into a terrible character. Until he falls from grace because of his bad attitude and Tam returns to help him. The show is peppered with their past and present moments strung together; the format is classic and even though in present they bicker endlessly; it’s obvious they were once deeply in love. So what went wrong?

The Next Prince

A dreamy project with magnificent sets and expensive costumes, Domunti TV has raised the bars for Thai BL dramas. “The Next Prince” seems to have an enormous budget, quite similar to big time Korean dramas. No expense has been spared to project a magnanimous regal romance, starring the most popular couple in the BL industry. Zee Pruk & NuNew Chawarin make a dreamy couple in this royal extravaganza, which is equal parts intriguing as entertaining. As Prince Khanin, Nunew perfectly slips into the persona of a Prince who was raised as a commoner. He has no knowledge of their rigid customs & traditions, is defiant and has a thought process of his own. As the royal bodyguard Charan, Zee effortlessly embodies a quiet yet powerful demeanor. The newly minted couple, Jimmy Karn & Ohm Thanakrit are making waves with their sensual chemistry, competing with the main couple’s popularity. This show was the most anticipated release of the year and it is living upto the expectations!

Special Mention

I Promise I Will Come Back

A rather slow paced romance, this travelogue stars Thai actors Tontae Tinnakorn, Best Noratape alongside Taiwanese actors Hsia En & Hsia Te. Their characters Tontrea, Nankrai and Victor are en8in a typical love triangle. What sets this show apart is the stunning locales and the slow burn chemistry between Tontae and the other two main leads. Check it at least once!

Loy Kaew First Love

Set in a historical context, the show focuses on Loy, a kind-hearted farmer’s son, who falls for Kaew, the village headman’s son and his close friend. The story focuses on the challenges they face as they slowly come to terms with their feelings for each other. The main leads Stamp Pornwasin & Leng Natthaphon have abundant chemistry to keep you invested!

We will back with another new feature next weekend!

  1. Looking at the social media statistics, I realize that BOYS IN LOVE probably isn’t the success GMMTV may have hoped for, but I think it’s terrific. Waa is getting the most from his rookies and Pod & Papang, as well. The six boys all have different personalities, but even though they’re based on stereotypes – the smart one, the class clown, the slacker, etc. – the characters have been given such well-rounded personalities that they feel authentic. (The do-we-love-her-or-do-we-hate-her mom is pretty fun, too.)

In the wrong hands this could have been WE ARE – JUNIOR EDITION and without the NC scenes and constant drinking which made that series tolerable, we would’ve been bored silly. Instead I’ve enjoyed all ten episodes and am anxious to see how it concludes.
