“I’m Your Moon” Series Review (Ep.3 to 8)

This show started as an intriguing reincarnation saga and ended as a disappointing repetitive plot with huge potholes!

I’m not sure if the premise was lost in translation as the original content was adapted from a novel; but albeit lots of unwarranted time jumps and poor storytelling, the show was a huge disappointment. After “Until We Meet Again”, I was expecting “I’m Your Moon” to be on par with its popular predecessor. Unfortunately, it wasn’t, the leading ladies lacked chemistry, though they look beautiful together. If only their good looks could tide over this storyline, then the show would have been a huge success. But a show needs a good script, good leads and above all, interesting directive. “I’m Your Moon” fails on all counts, ironically the supporting couples have better storylines than the main couple. You don’t know if you should cry over this misnomer or quietly judge the poorly written script.

The Lackluster Main Couple

After watching the pilot episodes, I was expecting a redemption arc. Phiangrawi Ussanakorn (Sprite Itaree) & Sasinapha Sitalaras (Piano Pronyanee) both Princesses born in royal houses were separated when they try to elope. Phiangrawi was murdered by Sasinapha’s mother who dies of heartbreak. Decades later, they reincarnated but ironically they are born in each other’s families. Ussanakorn and Sitalaras have been at odds for decades and it is unlikely they will reconcile anytime sooner. Unlike her last birth, where she was shy and timid, Phiangrawi is reborn as Earl Ussanakorn. She has a dominant personality, is business minded and quite decisive. Sasinapha is born as Prey Sitalaras, the docile, kindhearted heiress, who has led a sheltered life with her Grandfather who is the current Prince. Despite their differing personalities, their love story still suffers from indecisiveness. Earl wastes a lot of time rejecting Prey’s earnest advances despite having feelings for her. Her hardheaded attitude is a turnoff and frustrating. Their abrupt reconciliation in the finale episode was rushed and totally unexpected. Sprite & Piano look good together but lack chemistry and intimacy!

The Hot Supporting Couple Who are Better

Ironically, the supporting couple Tian (Mie Phattaranan) and Milinth (Belle Ploynapus) actually steal the thunder. Tian is Prey’s maternal cousin. Because of her privileged and sheltered upbringing, Tian is one of the few people whom Prey’s Grandfather trusts. Subsequently, Milinth is also accepted by the entire family, 9and she treats Prey like her own younger sister. Mie & Belle have a phenomenal chemistry, Tian has a dominant personality a d most men in her industry fear her because of her aggressive personality. But at home, she is sweet and adores her girlfriend. Milinth is the only one who can rein in control when Tian loses her temper. Milinth treats Tian’s family as her own and that makes their relationship so enjoyable to watch. I wish the main couple had half of their charm.

The BL Side-Couple Whom I Loved

Kathir & Andy (Seagame Phadtraruengrid) represent the typical “Enemies to Lover’s” trope. Andy is a superstar working under Milinth’s management company and Kathir works for Earl. Because of an unexpected twist, Kathir ends up becoming a chaperone for Andy. Their relationship has lots of ups and downs as Kathir doesn’t like Andy’s attitude. But slowly love blossoms as Kathir learns more about their hidden past. Both actors had a good chemistry and I really liked their pairing!

Is it a Worthwhile Watch

Definitely not, if you could, preferably skip this show!

I have nothing against GL trope but there are very few pairings that actually make the mark. Sprite & Piano fail phenomenally in their first outing as an official couple. Piano embodies Prey’s sweet innocence and Sprite is good at portraying Earl’s complex emotions, but together they don’t spark any kind of chemistry. Skip this if you can!
