Betrayal is one of the hardest obstacles to overcome in a relationship. When trust is the strongest foundation between two people, rebuilding it after it’s broken asks for a lot of patience, honesty, and a willingness to face what was lost.
The Thai BL My Romance Scammer finds love in a space where deception and affection collide in ways that feel messy and unexpectedly sincere. The story centers on Pai and North, heirs to the influential Jiramongkolthanan family, whose carefully structured lives are disrupted by two men who enter with hidden intentions. Tim and Yu aren’t searching for love, they’re chasing security, using marriage as their strategy. What begins as calculated manipulation slowly grows into genuine emotions, turning what should have been a clean con into something much deeper.
Junior Panachai Sriariyarungruang brings a vulnerability to Tim that softens a character constantly at war with his own choices. Opposite him, Mark Jiruntanin Trairattanayon plays Pai with a warmth that makes his trust feel sacred, and therefore devastating when it’s broken. Ohm Thitiwat Ritprasert and Poon Mitpakdee, as Yu and North, mirror this dynamic with their own layered push and pull, offering a second relationship shaped by different pacing but equally rooted in a similar conflict.

From the very beginning, the series builds off tension. Early moments of staged affection and carefully crafted intimacy create the unease needed to show how fractured and tenuous Tim and Yu’s lies have made their relationships. And yet, it’s within these exchanges with their partners—shared glances, touches, and heartfelt conversations—that the illusion starts to crumble. Feelings don’t happen all at once; they build gradually, complicating the intentions that once seemed clear to Tim and Yu.
What ultimately makes My Romance Scammer work is how it handles the reasons behind the deception. Tim and Yu are not framed as simple antagonists. Their choices come from difficult circumstances, shaped by a world that demands survival above all else. The series doesn’t excuse their actions, but it does take the time to understand them. And in doing so, it allows them the chance to grow.
As the story progresses, the focus becomes less about the act of deception and more about its consequences. The pacing is steady, following both couples through the fallout. While Tim grapples with the weight of his lies, Pai learns what it means to trust again. North and Yu move through this stage more quickly, but their journey still has enough nuance to work, especially as Yu begins to open up in ways that reveal the depth of his past and how his relationship with his mother warped how he views love.

One of the series’ strongest elements is how clearly it contrasts the lives of its characters. Pai and North exist in a world of privilege and expectation, while Tim and Yu come from harsher realities where choices are limited. That divide becomes the core of their relationships, shaping not only the deception but also the eventual transformation that love brings into their lives
It was easier for me to connect with Tim and Pai in the beginning, mainly because Mark and Junior have an effortless and believable connection on screen that’s been built over time. But somewhere along the way, I did begin to connect more with North and Yu. I struggle with love at first sight, whirlwind relationship stories, and I feel like that’s part of why North and Yu’s story took longer to get under my skin. I do think Ohm and Poon have potential as a pair, and I hope that is given room to grow in future series.
If there’s one place where the series falters for me, it’s in how long it holds onto the deception. The scams, particularly Tim’s, stretch further than they need to, delaying the time needed to rebuild trust. Given how central trust is to a relationship, an earlier reveal might have allowed for a deeper exploration of their feelings as they rebuilt that trust. Still, even with that pacing choice, the series manages to tie everything together while also making me root for both couples.

The struggles, whether rooted in survival or expectation, are acknowledged, and the characters are given room to grow beyond them. It becomes less about the lies that brought them together and more about the choice to move forward honestly.
All in all, My Romance Scammer is a fun watch that offers just enough angst to make it interesting and enough love to make the characters easy to fall in love with.
