5 Romances That Tug At Your Heartstrings!!

Some romances aren’t meant to be, because time immemorial doesn’t always support the love shared by the queer community. So, imagine being born in an era where same-sex love was criminalized, and you could get killed for loving someone belonging to the same sex, social stigma aside.

To Sir With Love

This show was kind of revolutionary at its advent. A Republican-era romance depicting a rich Chinese heir and a poor man taking questionable jobs to raise his younger siblings was something unheard of and innovative. To Sir, With Love throws us into the chaotic Song family and their internal power struggle during the 1930s-40. As the head of the Five Dragon Guild, the Song Family is surrounded by scrutiny, especially the eldest son, Tian (Film Thanapat). But Tian hides a secret. He likes men. Things get complicated when he falls in love with Jiu (Jam Rachata). Their love story is fraught with tension and unquestionable anxiety, as Tian tries hard to hide his feelings before ultimately bowing down to his emotions. Their ill-fated romance is intense, painful and yet realistic. “To Sir With Love” is emotionally altruistic, symbolic and vividly reminiscent!!

I Feel You Linger in the Air

Time travel wasn’t a vastly discussed topic in the BL genre before. Mix this trope with historical elements and you have a potboiler in your hands. Jom (Nonkul Chanon), an architect renovating a historic house by the Ping River, discovers a chest filled with old drawings that seem strangely familiar. He is grief stricken after his long-time boyfriend cheats on him and Jom accidentally drives his car into the river, where he hears a mysterious voice call his name. He wakes up in the 1920s Chiang Mai, embarking on an unexpected journey. Born in a modern era with a broader mindset, Jom is forced to act as a servant to Yai (Bright Rapheephong). He feigns memory loss and no one wonders about his identity. This unexpected journey to the past forces him into a corner, as he slowly falls in love with Yai. One is the son of a High Lord whilst the other is a servant. Social divide apart, they are forced apart by homophobia. “I Feel You Linger in the Air” scripts a painful love story about two lost souls who only wanted to love each other freely!!

The Edge of Horizon

One31 Thailand’s latest historical BL stars the fresh pairing of Inn Jakkrasin & Ongsa Tthuchh Khummuang. Prince Thinnakon (Ongsa) and his wet nurse’s son Phob (Inn) grew up together. Unhindered by their social divide, they fall in love, only to be torn apart by Phob’s cautious mother and Tinn’s father. The first two episodes build up their quiet romance solemnly. As childhood friends, they are close and Tinn doesn’t treat Phob like a servant. He is especially good at studying, unlike Tinn’s brother, Prince Chat (Pond Ponlawit) who seems like a lost cause. The show hinges on the budding romance between two youngsters, who, despite the gap in their royal status, endeavor to be together. The first two episodes were an absolute hit because of the phenomenal chemistry between InnOngsa. Despite being a fresh pairing, they bring a distinct charm to this historical BL!!

The Loyal Pin

As one of the most popular couples in the GL industry, FreenBecky’s tryst with a period drama was indeed praiseworthy. Princess Aninlaphat/Anin (Becky Armstrong) and Mom Rajawongse Pilanthita/ Pin (Freen Sarocha), have been close since they were young. On turning fifteen, Princess Anin is sent abroad according to their family tradition for higher studies. Distance makes the heart grow fonder and Anin realizes that she sees Pin as more than just a friend. Once she returns to Thailand, Princess Anin tries everything to get near to Khunying Pin, where she can find the opportunity to confess her love. However, it seems to be an impossible task as Khunying Pin has been engaged to marry Khun Chai Kueakiat. No matter which role they play, FreenBecky’s chemistry is indescribable. They lend a solid balance to this historical romance with lots of yearning and oddles of longing served as the main course!!

I’m Your Moon

Divided into two different eras, prejudice and later family enmity separate two young lovers as they are reincarnated. In 1913, social rank and tradition bars the love between Princess Phiangrawi (Sprite Itaree) and Princess Sasinapha (Piano Pronyanee). One of them is killed while the other dies of heartache. Both princesses reincarnate in the year 2021. Earl & Pray are reborn in each other’s families and their relationship yet again becomes a subject of scorn because of familial enmity. Earl tries her level best to stay away from Pray, but her unwaveringly devotion slowly wins her over. Sprite & Piano have a natural chemistry. Their camaraderie shines through, even when they play characters from two different eras!!
