Short. Fun. And maybe a little endearing.
Adapted from the manga Yatara Yarashii Fukami-kun by Matsumoto, Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami stars Kashio Atsuki as Kaji Akihiro and Nanox as Fukami Yu. What begins as a casual arrangement between two coworkers quickly becomes more complicated when Kaji, a successful salesman who initially judges Fukami as dull and unremarkable, discovers there’s much more to his colleague than he expected. As the two bond over their views on love and relationships, what starts as something physical slowly develops into something much deeper.
Ten episodes, each one about 13 minutes apiece.

To be honest, there’s not much to be said about Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami. It’s a typical story about a casual hookup that turns into coworkers with benefits and eventually develops into a real relationship. And that’s really the gist of it.
While I didn’t regret watching the series, it’s mostly a short collection of comedic moments, awkward romance, awkward love scenes, and two characters who quickly reveal why they struggle with commitment before eventually deciding to commit. There are a few surprisingly deeper moments, but they’re brief and scattered throughout the series.
With its short runtime, Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami doesn’t give viewers enough time to really sink their teeth into either the plot or the characters. While I understood both of these men and was happy to see them get their HEA, there simply isn’t enough time to do much beyond rushing toward the finish line.

That said, there were some genuinely laugh-out-loud moments. Sometimes a show just needs to be entertaining, and Unexpectedly Naughty Fukami succeeds at that.
