An ordinary romance is still an impossible dream for most homosexual couples!!

Most same-sex couples dream about getting married. It doesn’t have to be a grand event, just a solemn ceremony that includes their closest ones and the right to legalize their union. But this simple fact remains a far-fetched dream in many countries where same sex marriage is still not legalized. The main protagonists in this show deliver an “Ordinary” romance. Wouldn’t they lead a comfortable life if they weren’t tagged as a same sex couple? What if the world didn’t look at them differently and treated them like normal couples? The show delivers a solemn love story between two vastly unique individuals. The age gap seems insignificant, given the way their romantic inclinations develop with time. As they both gravitate towards each other, they discover what it means to love each other in an ordinary manner.

Storyline & Chemistry-

Fumihara Ichiro (Furukawa Yuki) and Higashi Kei (Nagano Ryota) are colleagues. Initially, Higashi admires Fumihara’s dedication to work and his helping nature. Coincidentally, they discover their shared love for movies. While attending movie screenings, Fumihara let it slip that he is gay. Immediately, Higashi proposes that they should date. Haunted by past trauma, Ichiro has long avoided deep connections, believing he could never share his life with someone else. Higashi, meanwhile, has never experienced romantic attraction and considers himself someone untouched by love. After Ichiro confesses that he is gay, the two eventually begin a relationship.

Sadly, a year later, they settle into an odd routine, without being intimate. Ichiro is plagued by doubts. Twelve years older than Kei and unable to understand why someone like him would choose to be with him, he questions whether Kei’s feelings are truly romantic and decides that they should break up. Higashi seems unaffected initially, but later their growing distance makes him confront his feelings for Fumihara. As they reconcile and move in together, their relationship is plagued by the return of Fumihara’s ex-boyfriend, Asahina Shuya (Furuya Robin).

The main leads have a beautiful chemistry. Without any unwarranted NC scenes, the show scripts a slow burn romance that is meaningful & realistic. You fall in love with Fumihara’s gentle nature & Higashi’s open-minded attitude, as they discover whether the life they are building together can become the ordinary love they have both been searching for.

Final Impressions

This was indeed an “Ordinary Love”, an extraordinary semblance of romance!!

Unlike most BLs, this show differs in its approach towards depicting homosexuality. As someone from a small town, Fumihara struggles with “Coming Out” of the closet, unless he meets like-minded individuals. Even though Higashi suggests dating Fumihara without putting much thought into it, he is sincere, once he decides to reunite with Fumihara. Both are mature and handle their problems sensibly.
