Blue Lips remain a recurring theme throughout this show. If you thought it was seduction, then you are wrong!!
The show is quite underrated, simply because active promotions were amiss. Personally, I feel that 16 episodes was too long for a storyline that seemed to have too many fillers. The script is littered with loopholes and the pacing is quite odd. But what keeps you invested in this storyline is the slow burn romance between two obviously opposite individuals. Our main leads come from different backgrounds and social stature. Adapted from the web novel “Lan Zui Chun” (蓝嘴唇) by Xia Zi Xu (夏子煦), the show stars the fresh pairing of Wei Lin Yu & Lan Shao Yun. The age difference is pretty obvious, but that serves to implacably portray the impossible romance between their characters. I won’t say this show exceeded my expectations, but it wasn’t that bad either. A better script and good editing would have done justice to the actors who have done their best!!
Storyline & Chemistry-

Former elite lawyer Teng Mo (Wei Lin Yu) walks away from his promising career after becoming haunted by an unsolved murder case. He opens an adult shop and drifts through an empty, aimless life. While aimlessly living his life, Teng Mo often frequents his close friend, A Heng’s (Zhao Ming Chuan) bar, where he is introduced to a mysterious singer, Wu Shi Xian (Lan Shao Yun). He has a remarkable appearance with blue dyed hair and mostly wears blue lipstick. Surprisingly, he often visits Teng Mo’s adult shop to buy Viagra. Teng Mo is drawn to Wu Shixian, who maintains his distance and mostly acts grumpy. Through regular song requests that are quite absurd, Teng Mo tries to grab his attention. The constant bantering & teasing draws them closer as Teng Mo helps him from an unexpected encounter with an unruly customer. As they slowly fall for each other, Teng Mo misunderstands Wu Shi Xian and leaves town without explaining everything. Later, he learns that Wu Shi Xian’s alluring appearance is a testament to his elder sister’s ailment. She suffers from an incurable disease and has blue lips. When her condition worsens and she is hospitalized, Teng Mo returns. Initially miffed at his sudden disappearance, Shi Xian forgives him and they reconcile. In her final moments, Shi Xian’s sister accepts his relationship with Teng Mo. Similarly, Teng Mo’s parents approve of his relationship with Shi Xian.
Wei Lin Yu & Lan Shao Yun have a refreshing chemistry. Teng Mo & Wu Shi Xian have a solemn romance, whereby they slowly bridge their differences and grow closer. Shi Xian has maturity beyond his age, which makes him intriguing.
Final Impressions

The romance is far too alluring, the show’s only downfall is the low budget!!
Cost-cutting is evident, since some of the scenes are oddly paced or obscure. I was very much interested in Brother Hao’s storyline. Even though he is credited as a supporting role, the actor playing the character is far too charming. I wish he had more screen time, because he is Teng Mo & Shi Xian’s guardian angel. He saves them in the most precarious situations without judging their actions.
