“Your Sky: Hare no Chi Koi” Series Review (Ep.1 to 9)

Not all remakes are as good as their original adaptations!!

The Japanese BL industry has been in a frenzy recently. They are either adapting their own homegrown manga novels or remaking Thai live-action adaptations. Another such remake added to this long list was “Your Sky: Hare no Chi Koi.” Adapted from the novel “Your Sky” (Your sky #กี่หมื่นฟ้า) by 25.15.66., the Japanese version sadly lacks the charm of the Thai edition. While watching a remake, comparisons are inevitable. Every aspect of the storyline, starting from the casting to the script which is rewritten, is scrutinized. This show fails that scrutiny in a robust manner, and I was left disappointed by a lot of things.

Storyline and Chemistry-

Hinata (Fukuda Ayuta) is a kind-hearted, innocent, and positive guy. One day, he has a chance encounter with Sora (Aihara Isshin), a tsundere senior who’s a campus celebrity and feared as the “Tyrant Prince.” Sora’s younger brother, Riku (Nakayama Keigo) is Hinata’s brother. Hinata is often harassed by his senior, Oji (Vasayegh Hikaru) who fell in love with him at first sight. To escape his clutches, Hinata lies about dating Sora. Since Oji doesn’t believe his claim, Hinata and Sora are forced into a fake dating relationship. As they spend time together, Hinata & Sora begin to fall in love with each other. Oji consistently creates problems with Sora, until Hinata confronts him. In the meantime, Riku falls in love with Moon Da On (Park Min Seok), a Korean exchange student. Makoto (Totaro) and Yu (Nakabayashi Toui) are Sora’s best friends who help him with managing his nightclub. While working together, they grow closer and fall in love.

The biggest drawback about this show is the fact that the chemistry between all three couples is lackluster. The Thai version became insanely popular because it gave birth to three distinct pairings. Aihara & Fukuda try hard to embody the innocence and charm of their Thai counterparts. Sadly, Thomas Teetut’s chemistry with Kong Kongpob remains untouched. Similarly, Totaro & Nakabayashi Toui have good chemistry, but they cannot be compared to Auau Thanaphum & Save Worapong’s screen presence. Also, Nakayama Keigo & Park Min Seok’s romance seems incomplete, as compared to the refreshing chemistry between Por Suppakarn & TeeTee Wanpichit.

Final Impressions

I wanted to like this show like some of the recent remakes churned out by the Japanese industry, but I couldn’t!!

The only person who leaves a deep impression is Vasayegh Hikaru. As Oji, he is an absolute menace, but his handsome looks are kind of charming. I think he did a better job than his Thai counterpart, Mike Chinnarat. Apart from that, the short format of this show doesn’t help in rendering the entire expanse of this storyline.
