When a novel has a series or movie version, expect it that it wouldn’t be exactly as the original content. Particularly if it is being adapted from Danmie/BL literature. Due to Chinese censorship restrictions, the love between the lead characters becomes platonic or bromance. It will then depend on the chemistry between the actors and their on-point acting skills to hook the audience to the said series.

Dear Straight People’s Boys’ Love series “Getaway” is a refreshing take on the “Coming out” phase for a 20 something beautifully average man. Told in 5 short but poignant episodes, we watch Sam (Sean Foo) as he solemnly reveals his sexuality in front of his homophobic father over dinner; with an urgency that couldn’t wait.
Cold personalities sometimes hide awkward feelings people don’t always know how to channel. Such is the case for the unfriendly behavior Kaneda Yuki (Seto Toshiki) shows towards his co-worker and mentor, Yanase Jun (Naito Shuichiro), in the new Japanese BL Senpai, This Can’t Be Love.
