“Shadow Part 1” First Impressions (Ep.1 to 7)

Prachaya Ruangroj (Singto) stars as Dan, a young man who transfers to Saint Lawrence’s, to start a new life. Instead, the first thing that happens to him at the all-boys school is that he’s hazed by Nai (Natouch Siripongthon, Fluke) who thinks he’s using the new student to for free notes. Instead, Dan spends the entire lecture doodling. Despite the joke, and a short-lived annoyance the two become fast friends, which works out because Dan’s roommate Josh (Poon Mitpakdee), is Nai’s best friend.

Studio Wabi Sabi – The Next Page

On the 23rd of November 2023, Studio Wabi-Sabi held a press conference to announce their 2024 lineup. The event opened up with a special performance from Boun Noppanut who serenaded the audience as his fellow Wabi-Sabi actors walked the white runway. The crowd was also treated to special performances from Earth Katsamonnat covering Taylor Swift, Santa Pongsapak embodying Jeff Satur and the ever-lovely Samantha Coates wrapped up the intro with her rendition of Jessies J’s Masterpiece. The event was simple, yet promising. Studio Wabi Sabi has truly discovered what it means to deliver quality and not quantity. Six projects were presented, four of them with a Boys Love/Girls Element. Upcoming “Girls’ Love” Dramas/Movies

Gone are the days when Girls’ Love dramas were low on viewership and ratings. The unprecedented success of Thai GL “Gap The Series” has heralded a new era where GL content is on the verge of evolving. The main leads Freen Sarocha & Rebecca Armstrong became household names and they are still trending. “Show Me Love” starring beauty queens Engfa Waraha & Charlotte Austin was another lucid attempt to diversify the popularity of this genre. Currently on-air Thai GL’s “Love Senior” and “Lucky My Love” are fervently trying to capitalize on this notion; whether they win or lose, only time will tell. In the meantime, let’s sit down and talk about the upcoming dramas/movies that will definitely grab your attention!

“I Feel You Linger in the Air” Series Review (Ep.3 to 12)

I saw a comment on my first impressions of “I Feel You Linger in the Air”, pointing out that I had given it 5/5 stars, which was rare for The BL Xpress, and personally, quite rare for me too. I had been sure about it then, but I did start to think about whether I had been too optimistic. Was I getting caught up in my feelings and giving it too much credit, seeing the show through rose coloured glasses?

“Dangerous Romance” Series Review (Ep.1 to 12)

Yet again, another Thai BL that, one, doesn’t live up to its expectations, and two, does not live up to its title. This was a typical formulaic standard, trite, and tropey BL that I could have written even if I were in a coma. It is pretty much epigonic. Only the names were changed.

“You Are Mine” Series Review (Ep.3 to 10)

“You Are Mine” started out as your typical office romance, which, although overdone, is an easy and reliable (vanilla) romance story. While the story had a strong set up, by the 3rd or 4th episode, it was clear that there was barely anything solid to the story, which undermined the chemistry between the main characters and left us with a flavorless romance. The chemistry between the leads was unfortunately not enough to carry us through the show that barely had any plot. Considering the caliber of the BL series, we have in 2023, and in Taiwan, this was a rare miss.

STAY Captures the Heart of the San Pedro International Film Festival: Meet Its Creators

Recently, the San Pedro Film Festival was held in one of the most beautiful and majestic art deco old movie theaters in the whole of the Los Angeles area. Built in the 1930’s, the Warner Grand Theater, funded by the Hollywood mogul Jack Warner way back in the day, is located in the port city of San Pedro. San Pedro feels like an isolated area of Los Angeles as it sits far from the hustle and bustle of Hollywood and Los Angeles itself. But it continues to remain a thriving and very diverse community. Once a year, it features a film festival for short films of diverse backgrounds. This year one of the more interesting BLs for 2023 was chosen to be honored. That was “STAY”, which stars Sebastian Castro as Andre and Ellis Gage as Joshua in a contemporary and perhaps distinctive love story, yet all too common for a city like Los Angeles. I reviewed this series and enjoyed it considerably when it came out. But there is something still so magical about seeing films on a big screen with the booming sound, and forgive me, eating popcorn.
