My last tier of my favorite Asian BLs for this year is, of course equally eclectic as my first two lists were. Perhaps these, of all the series I have watched this year, are the ones that have left the greatest emotional impact on me. Equally important, they have also made me ruminative and reflective. Wondering and pondering most whether I would have taken the same actions or gone down the same path or felt the same way. Mostly, I saw something within me in each of the main protagonists. Some characteristic force, strength, flaw, weakness, emotion, or perhaps desire that helped me identify more with how they felt, who they were, and/or more importantly why they did what they did. “Ossan’s Love Returns” continues the adventures of Japanese gay couple Maki and Haruta after the events of the first season and the follow-up movie. Ironically even after years of being together the two 30+ years old men have a thing or two to learn about everything. Luckily the entire cast of the original series is present to offer life lessons to the pair along the way. That being said most lessons are given to Haruta (the man needs all the help he can get) on maintaining a relationship and how to treat his husband.

Popular Japanese BL “Ossan’s Love” is set to return to the silver screens with a new sequel; Kento Hayashi, Kei Tanaka, and Kotaro Yosida will be reprising their character roles of Ryota Maki, Soichi Haruta, and Musashi Kurosawa. Promotions are in full swing with the official accounts releasing individual character profiles alongside an intriguing teaser video which portrays the varied dynamics between our main leads. The show has ensemble casting which involves Iura Arata, Miura Shohei, Uchida Rio, Kaneko Daichi, Ito Shuko, Kojima Kazuya, Mashima Hidekazu and Ohtsuka Nene in supporting roles.
