“Love is Like A Cat” Series Review (Ep.1 to 12)

Synopsis: When global superstar Piuno is threatened by those who wish to see him brought low, there’s only one thing he can do to save his reputation and his career: work at a pet daycare. Pushing aside his severe dislike for animals, Piuno begins working alongside the daycare’s director, Dae Byeol, who helps him find ways to overcome the trauma that first inspired his hatred of animals. As his heart begins to soften, unexpected feelings for Dae Byeol begin to arise. Could their current working relationship grow into something more?

When I first started watching this show, I was very excited to see a Korean-Thai crossover BL series, especially with Mew in it. But as much as I wanted to enjoy the show, it was disappointing, to say the least. There was no plot, no chemistry, no romance, no anticipation to watch the next episode and I really didn’t care about what will happen next. If you are watching a romantic drama, you can ignore all the emptiness if the romance, chemistry, and interaction between the two main leads is toe-curling but unfortunately, that wasn’t the case here which ruined the show. It felt forced and awkward, even the confession part, I didn’t feel anything watching it.

It felt like some random plot thrown with the awkward romantic scene (poor attempt) and Piuno’s childhood fear related to dogs could have been used as a better plotline. But well, one episode, one conversation, and everything is OK. It normally doesn’t work like this but anything can happen in this show, so moving forward. Another and most important blunder of the show was the language barrier, Piuno is working in Korea and speaking Thai and everyone understands what he is saying clearly and he understands what everyone is saying in Korean but never attempts to speak it. It’s like what is even going on? Did they legit put this out for the audiences to watch? I know they have translators but in the show, they just removed all these minute details. Even in the animal clinic, there were no animals except one dog, two nurses, and no one else. The ending episodes seemed rushed; things escalated so quickly leading to a happy ending; like there were so many things to cover and it was all left alone, forgotten.

Mew is an excellent actor but in the show, he just didn’t shine and didn’t get a chance to display his potential, instead, JM who played Dae did a decent job but the real show-stealers were the side characters Gi Min (Geonu) and Jun Hyuk (Kim Kyoung Seok) and most importantly Piuno’s assistant, they were adorable and Gi Min was one of the reasons I watched the show.

A mediocre plot, poor acting skills, poor Implementation of topics that could have been something more, and absence of genuine romantic interactions with non-existent appealing slice-of-life content made the show boring.

Rating- 1.5 out of 5 stars

  1. Rating 1.5 out of 5? Oh my! This has got to be the lowest rated series on the-bl-xpress that I can think of. I can’t recall any series that was rated any lower on this site. I will definitely not be watching this drama.
