“23.5” Series Review (Ep. 3 to 12)

Summary: Ongsa’s high school life will never be the same when she carelessly tells her cute and cheerful classmate Sun “sweet dreams” using the Instagram name Earth. Unfortunately, the masculine name leads Sun to believe she’s talking to a guy, but Ongsa doesn’t want to lose the opportunity to talk to her. She chooses to keep it a secret and go on talking to Sun as Earth.

GMMTV is clearly winning all hearts with its variety in tv shows, series and LGBTQ representation. Adapted from the novel “23.5 When the Earth Is Spinning Around”, “23.5” is one of the shows that will win your hearts from the first episode, even though there is nothing new or refreshing, but its the characters that wins the people’s heart. But as much as I wish to say that the show kept up its good work up, it will be wrong to say so because the series went a bit downhill after Episode 4. Milk Pansa and Love Pattranite as Ongsa and Sun were very good individually but together they lacked the chemistry and passion that two people in love have. Individually, they really shine in their respective characters but when you are playing the lead role in a romantic series, it’s important to show some passion in the romance scenes.

Other thing that irked me the most was how fast paced the show was. One minute you are strangers and another minute you are madly in love. The development of their relationship seemed too fast. Instead, I was more invested in our secondary pairings, Aylin (View Benyapa) and Luna (June Wanwimol) more. They were wonderful together, and I was literally cheering for them more. I was so irritated when they were outed without their consent in front of their parents. Despite these flaws, I kept watching the show because even though it was not perfect, it was a worthwhile experience. I felt emotional while watching the show.

Like most GMMTV shows, I feel like they should focus on actor’s facial expressions more. Overall, the direction was good but the flow of story feels off if you can’t see proper development between the characters.
