“The Water” First Impressions (Ep.1 & 2)

Englot are back with their fourth project, and I’m a mixed bag of emotions!!

The first thing you notice in this show is the extended casting from “Unlimited Love.” For those who haven’t watched this romcom with an ensemble casting, Englot played the main leads alongside multiple pairings. Now, some of the cast have been included in “The Water”, so it seems like a happy reunion for them. Obviously, the show is centered around Englot’s strong attraction and chemistry towards each other. The storyline hinges on the tried and tested formula of the “Enemies to Lover’s” trope. After watching the first two episodes, it is evident that the show is a laughter riot, despite the serious tone it adopts in certain scenes. You can’t help but laugh wholeheartedly at Lada’s silly depositions and her tricks to fool Nam. But what happens when you fall in love with your enemy??

Storyline & Chemistry-

“Nam” Apo Wathinwanit (Engfa Waraha) is a sophisticated and sharp executive at Monarch Hotels under Watin Group. She is a complete workaholic, with no interest in romance or anything else. Her life revolves around her work schedules and her work ethic is immeasurable. “Lada” Chonlada Kunanon (Charlotte Austin) is the third daughter of tycoon Pheemdech, born to his mistress. As such, her existence has been kept a secret, and she uses her mother’s maiden name. Chonlada is quite close to her second-eldest brother, Phat (Heng Asavarid). When Phat loses a million dollar deal to Nam, he is heavily criticized by their father. Also, Chonlada’s father intends to marry her as a part of a business deal. In order to seek retribution for her brother and also to consolidate her own position, Chonlada decides to infiltrate Monarch Hotels to steal important information for her brother. Her repeated attempts to catch Nam’s attention go unnoticed. In the end, she joins the company as an intern to get closer to Nam.

Engfa & Charlotte have remarkable chemistry. They quickly adapt to romantic scenes and that remains their biggest strength. In the pilot episode, Nam doesn’t pay much attention to Lada and finds her quite annoying. But Lada snivels her way to the top, but first by blackmailing Nam and later, by proving her worth. She isn’t completely hopeless, just clumsy. The cold hearted Nam begins to melt as they spend time together!!

First Impressions

Since this universe has a set of recurring characters, it is endearing to watch their familial ties!!

Lom (Freen Sarocha) wrecks havoc when she takes a shine to Chonlada. Obviously, Nam gets possessive and decides to hide Chonlada from Lom’s sights. The cousins have their own silly antics and sweet arguments. It was nice seeing Din & Rose as they made a guest appearance. For now, Lada is at loggerheads with her own mission. Her brother is pressuring her for information, but it seems like she has grown to respect Nam and doesn’t want to fail her trust. In the midst of this turmoil, Nam’s father Adisorn (Pete Thongchua) makes an appearance when rumors target their relationship. He readily accepts Lada, the quiet acceptance that she never found at home. The storyline is shaping up well and is interesting!!
