“Hometown Romance” First Impressions (Ep.1 & 2)

What happens when a high society diva is forced to get married to a countryside girl??

Chaos ensues, romance happens and there is oodles of humor involved. Adapted from the novel “Sami Ban Nok” (สามีบ้านนอก) by Lambo (แลมป์โบ), the show stars Lookmhee Punyapat & Sonya Saranphat in lead roles. After starring in “Harmony Secret”, Lookmhee has to tone down her appearance to play a countryside girl who has no qualms about anything. Sonya continues to play a rich heiress, only this time her character arc is comic and tone-deaf (she literally screams every time, things don’t go her way). The first two episodes pitch a perfect scenario for romance and character growth. Lookmhee & Sonya always easily adapt to the characters they play, and this show is no different. Unlike their previous shows which had a serious tone, this one leans more towards humor and the burden rests on Sonya’s slender shoulders!

Storyline & Chemistry-

Si (Sonya Saranphat) is a high-society heiress. She is rich, spoiled and hasn’t worked for a single day in her life. She spends her time shopping endlessly whenever she is annoyed or irritated, spending millions without a second thought. Things get chaotic when her father suddenly decides to appoint her younger sister, Song (Aim Thanyares) as their company’s CEO, believing Si is too immature and irresponsible. The family business faces a crisis involving a crucial land lease renewal, negotiations fail, until Klaokawi (Lookmhee Punyapat), the landowner, makes an unusual proposal: she will renew the lease only if Si agrees to marry her. Initially, Si is repulsed by the idea. But she is left with no other option because her parents don’t take her seriously. To win their favor and become the company’s CEO, she travels to Klao’s hometown. She strikes a deal with Klao, insisting that they should first get engaged. During the period they are engaged, Klao will renew their lease agreement. If and when they get married, Klao will give the land to Si as her bride price. Klao is a serious and mature person, but she is quite taken with Si and amused by her antics. So, she agrees to Si’s ridiculous terms and renews the land deal.

Lookmhee Punyapat & Sonya Saranphat have a natural chemistry. Even in situations where Si is being ridiculous, Klao understands her perfectly. Si leads a lonely life because initially she was spoiled by her parents. She was raised like a pampered princess who was abandoned after her younger sister outshone her. Sonya embodies that loneliness perfectly as Lookmhee renders support & comfort!!

First Impressions

Klao & Si meet under unexpected circumstances and are drawn to each other inexplicably!!

Most of the time, Si seems like an utterly spoiled heiress, given her tendency to overreact and the fact that she is a spendthrift. Her father always undermines her abilities and doesn’t trust her. Si is treated as if she is invisible, and she is not allowed to involve herself in company matters. Her loneliness draws her to Klao, who is seemingly the first person to take her seriously. Despite her ridiculous attempts to strike an unfavorable deal, Klao accepts her wholeheartedly and is kind to her. I’m looking forward to their budding romance because Si needs at least one person in her life who actually listens to her!!
