Adapted from the Japanese light novel series “Isekai no Sata wa Shachiku Shidai” written by Yatsuki Wakatsu and illustrated by Kikka Ohashi, the anime lends its voice to a workaholic corporate slave, who unknowingly gets drawn into a mystical land. We have heard and talked about “The Other World” but no amount of lucid description can describe the ridiculous and unbelievable happenings in this other world that the main protagonist, Seiichirou Kondou, stumbles into. The anime is a pun intended on the habitual workings of a corporate slave, no matter where they are. At times hapless, other times stubborn, Seiichirou Kondou is a force to be reckoned with, no matter where he is.
Storyline

The story focuses on Seiichirou Kondou, a 29-year-old corporate slave who suddenly stumbles across a helpless school girl, Yua, while she is being forcefully kidnapped by some spooky-looking men. Amid his efforts to save her, the two are transported to another world. After gathering his wits, Kondou learns that people in this world need a “Young Maiden” to save them from the dangerous miasma that is threatening to erupt. Only the so-called maiden can purely the miasma and hence, Yua is unwittingly kidnapped and forced into this divine role. Kondou is treated as collateral damage and the kingdom promises to take care of him. Aghast at the idea of having a free lifestyle, to everyone’s surprise, Kondou asks for a job.
As per his demand, Kondou was given a post at the Royal Accounting Department. Unlike the fast-paced life that Kondou is used to, his colleagues in the Accounting Department work at a leisurely pace. Unable to stand their lazy attitude, Kondou starts to takeover copious amounts of work. His work schedule leaves him exhausted and, unknowingly, he consumes health tonics which give him an instant splurge of energy. Unbeknownst to him, he doesn’t have the magical antibodies that Yua possesses. As a result, his health starts declining, and he suffers from a breakdown. Right in time to be rescued by Commander Aresh Indolark. They end up having sex because Aresh has to use his magic to save Kondou from certain death.
The icy Commander slowly becomes addicted to taking care of the workaholic Kondou, as he adjusts to his new working environment. Kondou’s meticulous methods draw the attention of Prime Minister Kamil Karvada. He decisively uses Kondou because his skills are unlike any other. From documenting accounts for expeditions to undermining the Church’s authority, Kondou does everything possible to prove his self-worth.
The Chemistry-

Kondou and Aresh’s relationship is quite questionable. It starts as a desperate attempt to save him when he consumes life-threatening potions. We aren’t sure if they are required to have sex or if Aresh just uses this excuse to keep Kondou chained to him. Kondou allows him the freedom to do anything because he doesn’t want his work to be interrupted. Aresh tries to get him under control, so he doesn’t overwhelm himself. He is obsessed with protecting Kondou and follows him everywhere. At times, Aresh’s behavior might seem obsessive, but he doesn’t listen to anyone whenever Kondou’s safety is threatened. At first, Kondou doesn’t worry about Aresh’s feelings, but with time, as they spend time together, Kondou slowly begins to appreciate Aresh’s affections. Their relationship grows into one of mutual respect & affection.
Final Impressions

“Isekai Office Worker: The Other World’s Books Depend on the Bean Counter” is a journey to be enjoyed at a leisurely pace!!
The show has ample room for development of the side characters. Yua grows from being an attention-seeking school girl to the real protector of the Other World. Apart from purifying the miasma, she takes a leaf from Kondou’s book and decides to help the downtrodden children in the kingdom. Prince Yurius gives up on his angry tantrums, and wholeheartedly supports Yua. Prime Minister Kamil Karvada seeks to employ Kondou so he can utilize him fully, but Aresh repeatedly stops him. Karvada gives up on his attempts later, as Kondou decides to adjust his work schedule. The anime has a perfect balance of mystical storytelling coupled with a swoon-worthy romance!!
