Japanese BLs are getting bolder these days whilst touching base with intriguing topics. Most of them are based on popular manga, and adapting them into live action series takes a lot of effort. Today, we are celebrating such beautiful artworks that are currently on-air!!

The older man who saved him from a groper turned out to be the president of the company where he would later work. Sexy times abound when Hisaki Ainosuke (Sakai Sho) is saved from a groper on the train by Okumi Hideaki (Kimisawa Yuki). Okumi notices Hisaki scrolling through a gay dating app and proposes having some sexy time together. Initially apprehensive, Hisaki falls for Okumi’s charm and they end up in bed. Shockingly, Okumi turns out to be the president of the company where Hisaki goes for a job interview. The age gap between Sakai and Kimisawa is pretty apparent, so they are perfect caricatures of their characters. Their chemistry is sweet & endearing, the NC scenes are portrayed tactfully!!

My Summer of You

High school romance never gets old, the charm exists in awkward confessions and first-time heart flutters. Saeki Chiharu (Mokudai Kazuto) and Toda Wataru (Oku Tomoya) are two high school students who share a common hobby. They love to watch movies. After they meet, they become fast friends until one day, their relationship takes a sudden twist, when Saeki confesses his feelings for Toda. Initially surprised, Toda still treats Saeki as his closest friend. As their summer vacation begins, Saeki and Toda undertake a pilgrimage to their favorite movie locations. Spending time together, Saeki spares no effort to make his feelings known. Though not unaffected, Toda doesn’t respond. Shockingly, after school reopens, Saeki goes missing and Toda learns that he is transferring to another country. Mokudai and Oku have a beautiful chemistry, they bring a boyish charm to their evergreen characters!!

Ordinary Love

A slow-burn romance that instantly wins your heart and leaves you wanting more. Fumihara Ichiro (Furukawa Yuki) and Higashi Kei (Nagano Ryota) are colleagues whose relationship began through a shared love of movies. Initially, Kei admires Ichiro as both a mentor and a supervisor. Haunted by past trauma, Ichiro has long avoided deep connections, believing he could never share his life with someone else. As they spend time together, Ichiro confesses that he is gay & Kei takes this opportunity to propose that they should date each other. One year later, however, Ichiro is still plagued by doubts. Twelve years older than Kei and unable to understand why someone like him would choose to be with him, he questions whether Kei’s feelings are truly romantic. Feeling insecure, Ichiro decides to breakup and Kei is confronted with the fact that he truly has developed feelings for Ichiro. Furukawa & Nagano have natural chemistry. Ichiro & Kei’s budding relationship is realistic and honest.

The Servant Prince

A psychological drama with a twist, “The Servant Prince” offers intriguing dynamics between the main couple. Once the untouchable prince at the top of the school hierarchy, Goto Naoya (Ogawa Fuminori) had everything: wealth, looks, intelligence, and the kind of charisma everyone admired. Sato Takaaki (Seto Toshiki), meanwhile, was the gloomy outcast constantly ordered around by Naoya like a personal errand boy. Even when faced with Naoya’s selfish and unreasonable demands, Takaaki never once resisted. Ten years later, their worlds have completely flipped. After failing as a company president, Naoya loses everything and is left unemployed, clinging desperately to the pride he has left behind. Takaaki, on the other hand, has become the successful young CEO of a rising IT venture company. And yet, despite the reversal, Takaaki still remains faithfully by Naoya’s side, devoting himself to him almost like a servant. The storyline explores their relationship as Naoya suffers from an inferiority complex while trying to resist his attraction to Takaaki who doesn’t want to give up on their master-servant dynamics at any cost. Seto really has good chemistry with all of his BL co-stars and this show is no exception.

Your Summer, My Storm

What happens when you end up falling for your sister’s boyfriend? Takemiya Natsuki (Fukada Ryusei), a high school senior preparing for his university entrance exams, is having the worst summer ever. He gets dumped by his girlfriend right before summer break, his mock exam scores are a disaster, and his future suddenly feels completely hopeless. Worried about him, his older sister arranges for her boyfriend, Kobayakawa Sota (Ukisho Hidaka), a student at her university, to become Natsuki’s private tutor. At first, Natsuki can’t stand Sota. He seems way too perfect, cheerful, and effortlessly charming. But as they spend more time together, Natsuki finds himself caught off guard by Sota’s warm smiles, gentle encouragement, and the innocent way he praises him with a pat on the head after studying hard. Little by little, feelings he never expected begin to grow inside him. Natsuki is slowly drawn towards Sota’s kind nature and his gentle attitude. Fukada & Ukisho have a sweet chemistry, they really look good together!!
