DewTee’s entry game was phenomenal, though not entirely believable!!
GMMTV doesn’t sell bromance, it is mostly focused on BL/GL, as evident from their last year’s showcase. But then SkyNani happened, and somewhere down the line, bromance became one of their forte. The latest entrant on this bandwagon is Dew Jirawat & Tee Teeradech. Dew was recently seen in the psychological thriller “Burnout Syndrome” where he played a very bold queer character. So, you might question the logic behind hoisting him onto the “bromance” ship. We don’t know the specific details, maybe his onscreen partner isn’t comfortable playing a BL role. But “Mr.Kill” clearly queerbaits you into believing that the two central characters are more than just friends. It gives them an intimacy which is slightly less than bromance but not entirely romance either. The story revolves around a murder mystery surrounding a serial killer, but it circumnavigates around the closeness between the main leads.
Storyline & Chemistry-
Kay (Dew Jirawat) is a famous manga writer, with quite a fan following. Currently, he is into writing sweet romances that sell well. His life gets utterly complicated when he finds himself under the watchful eye of Phat (Tee Teeradech), the inspector overseeing a serial murder case, after the victims’ profiles, killing methods, and crime scenes are found to bear a suspicious resemblance to scenes from Kay’s old work, Nekhros. Initially under suspicion, Phat decides to keep Kay under his close supervision. However, as the cases keep piling up, Phat is forced to seek help from Kay. As they dig deeper, Kay is aghast by the strong resemblance to his work. The serial killer seems to be replicating each of the cases in his work, to serve justice. Most of the victims were suspects involved in the Thai Investment Fraud Case, which had adversely affected both Phat & Kay’s families. As they work together to gather evidence, it becomes clear that the killer is toying with Kay, trying to provoke him.
Dew & Tee work surprisingly well together. Kay & Phat’s relationship grows slowly, they were both affected by the fraud case in different ways. While Phat chose to serve in the police force, Kay was left debt-ridden. His pain & suffering led him to write “Nekhros.” Initially suspicious of Kay, Phat grows to trust him and till the very end, he chooses to believe that Kay would never turn into the killer’s henchman.
Final Impressions
The show tries to sell the bromance so hard, that the mystery takes a backseat!!
As soon as Off Jumpol makes an appearance, it becomes clear that his Than is a manipulative, nefarious character. So, in hindsight, there is no mystery behind the killings that happened too randomly & conveniently. The way he keeps baiting Phat shows his arrogance. He spends far too much time pitting Phat against his own sister, Praew (Singha Luangsuntorn). He also makes Kay question his own morality. As a villain, Off leaves a deep impression on your mind!
