If you were born in the Indian subcontinent, then “saas-bahu (mother-in-law & daughter-in-law) theatrics” seem pretty common in most dramas!!

So, imagine my delight when I sat down to watch the first episode of “In Love Forever” and realized that it was based on the evergreen formula of in-law hysterics. Most Indian television shows have a domineering, evil mother-in-law who likes to keep their son under tight control and make their daughter-in-law’s life a living hell. Now, imagine watching a sapphic version of this concept, albeit with loads of twists & turns. At times, it was fun, other times quite frustrating. But it was enough to get your appropriate dose of adrenaline rush every weekend. Every Friday, I sat down to watch the said mother-in-law, Kingkamol plots and schemes her way into self destruction. The way she was determined to ruin her only daughter’s life needs to be studied zealously. This is Lingling Sirilak & Orm Kornnaphat’s third project and their dynamics has changed significantly. They seem more mature, subdued and confident.

Storyline & Chemistry-

“In Love Forever” has a pretty simple storyline. Neen Pheeracha (Orm Kornnaphat), heiress to a hotel empire, is happily married to lawyer, Ranlaphat Traikittiphum (Lingling Sirilak). They live in a house granted by Neen’s parents and are very much in love. The only glitch in their relationship is Runch’s mother, Kingkamol (Kik Suwatjanee). She disapproves of Runch’s relationship with Neen and always keeps trying innovative methods to demean Neen and separate her from Runch. Being an only daughter, Runch always gives in to her mother’s outrageous demands. However, in due course of time, Kingkamol’s intentions become overbearing. Unbeknownst to Runch, Kingkamol tries to use Runch’s childhood friend, Melinya (Candy Supapat) to cause misunderstandings between them. When her plan fails, she uses emotional blackmailing to keep Runch under control. She grows aggressive as Neen fires back and Runch chooses to side with her. Realizing that Runch is no longer under control, Kingkamol partners with At (Job Thuchapon), Runch’s homophobic junior colleague. At kidnaps Neen and threatens her for money, but Runch saves her. Their relationship deteriorates beyond damage and they seek divorce. Kingkamol gets her wish, but Runch cuts her off completely and moves abroad. Years later, Runch & Neen reunite and reconcile, getting remarried.

Final Impressions

The strength of this show lies in Kingkamol’s evilness & LingOrm’s defined chemistry!!

This is LingOrm’s third project together and their comfort is understandable. Ling is mostly used to playing dominant characters, but her Runch is subdued yet understated. Runch mostly gives in to her mother, but once she understands that siding with her is ruining her relationship, she takes a firm stand. We have always seen Orm in cheerful portrayals, but her Neen is strong and daring. Kik is obviously the star of this star. She makes sure that you hate Kingkamol from the depths of her heart. Her behavior is incorrigible and unimaginably frustrating.
