“Match Point” Series Review (Ep.1 to 10)

TeshowPing’s chemistry was everything and it couldn’t get better than this!!

When GMMTV announced that Ping Krittanun would be paired opposite Teshow Promsakha in the sports romance “Match Point”, most of his fans must have wagered a bet on his chemistry with this rookie actor. Previously paired opposite Meen Nichakoon, MeenPing became popular because of their natural chemistry. Their sudden separation was unexpected and when Ping joined GMMTV, everyone ventured a guess about his new partner. So, “Match Point” premiered to high expectations and TeshowPing are the new sensation on the block. After watching the trailer, quite a few people commented on the fact that the storyline gave “Bad Buddy” vibes. Whether these two shows are comparable, let’s have a detailed discussion in our review!!

Storyline & Chemistry-

Perfect school tennis player Sun (Ping Krittanun) and indie, arts-track boy Bay (Teshow Promsakha) have feuding fathers. Their families own competing dim sum restaurants on Krong Thong Road: Sun’s family’s old, traditional shop Saming Phon Fai, and Bay’s family’s Merlion, a new spot famous for its shumai. When Bay learns that Sun has decided to drop out of school to participate in the national tryouts, he enters a tennis tryout to annoy Sun and Sun loses due to an injury. When their fathers get into another argument, the principal orders a rematch. Unbeknownst, their fathers, Chun and Bee strike a deal: whichever family loses must close their dim sum business for good. When the day of the match arrives and circumstances push them to take up representing the school as a doubles pair, the two keep it a secret from their fathers. As they train at a resort outside the city and begin to open up to each other, Bay and Sun confess their feelings for each other. All hell breaks lose when Sun’s father catches them together. However, he accepts their relationship after Sun’s mother intervenes. Even though Sun’s father accepts them, Bay’s father creates chaos and Bay leaves home. The feud comes to an end when Bay’s mother and brother talk sense into Bay’s father and he reluctantly accepts his mistake.

Teshow & Ping have a natural chemistry. Despite being a rookie actor, Teshow embodies Bay’s desperation and his yearning for Sun quite well. Ping matches his elan and their refreshing camaraderie shines through. Frankly, Ping seems more comfortable with Teshow, than he did with Meen.

Final Impressions

Another highlight of this show was the fresh pairing between Sing Harit & Chimon Wachirawit!!

I lived for the “BoatKong” crumbs that were discreetly scattered along every weekend. Chimon’s return to BL dramas is quite noticeable, as he strikes a heartwarming camaraderie with Sing. I really loved watching them together & I’m hoping that GMMTV utilizes their full potential in upcoming shows. Their screen time was minimized in this show. So, I’m hoping to see them again in extended roles in a fresh show, even if it is a supporting role.
