This week was a slow poke again, with rather few announcements. The Friday rush seems to die with quite a few shows headed towards their finale. Let’s go through the upcoming fresh lot!
The sudden outpour of Chinese dramas (both certified BL & Bromances) might come as a surprise to most. There are many who are still questioning the extent of censorship; even a slight change in schedule makes them panic. Chinese censorship is notoriously infamous for cutting down good dramas solely because homosexuality is criminalized offense in that country. But in recent days, producers and directors have found a new way to produce these dramas- shooting them abroad & streaming them on international platforms. Since it surpasses the regional boundaries, these dramas are safe!

This is a surprisingly effective series that is deeply rooted in the realms of movie making and BL specifically. The more light that is shed on whom represent characters in movies, specifically in the BL genre, fans will hopefully gain a better appreciation not only of the work that is involved in the making of a movie but also understand the complexities of the underlying production to a movie. And a lot of it is ugly. I do think the story is a relevant one to tell because it represents the ills that go on in this industry. It can be a brutal, impersonal, and cut-throat industry and make no mistake, it is an industry.

Just plain weird. Honestly, there are not many instances that give me the ‘willies’, but watching this series frankly did. Everything about this story left me disquiet. And the way the narrative was fashioned felt like what the two protagonists were somehow involved in, between the two of them, was ‘dirty’. Therefore, the whole drama felt – unclean. Sadly, it did not need to go down that road.
With quite a few shows reaching their finale last weekend, we can look forward to some early releases from various media platforms. Some of those are shows that you have long anticipated and are eagerly awaiting their release!
We are halfway through 2025 and the stunning display of sensual yet high quality narratives has left most audiences satisfied. It could be attributed to the definitive pacing & better script writing skills which coupled with good acting talents have elevated the entire experience. The sudden downpour of shows is indeed questionable. Are they worth your time? Are we finally stepping out of the repetitive patterns? Is BL offering more than subpar content? Let’s figure out the answers to these questions with a quick glance at some of my favorites from this year!

This is a special week. I am including two extra days of reviews because on Tuesday, July 8, I am flying to New York to spend ten days. While I’m there, I will be attending “The Heart Killers” Fan Meeting and “Timeless Thai Taste” 2025. I will be doing a special article when I come back about those events, since I will not have watched many (if any) BL series while I’m there.
Things settled down a bit this week, but I still think there are too many series on Fridays to make watching everything the same day super enjoyable, so I think I’m going to have to drop some, and the first two that come to mind are “Pitbabe” and “Knock Out”. It’s not that they’re not well-done; they just bring me the least amount of joy. I may watch them on Wednesdays, when there’s not a lot airing.
