With Domunti TV and GMMTV couples making a splash on Songkran festival, last week was lit. We still haven’t recovered from the sweet nothings that were plastered to our timelines and the momentum still keeps going. Despite that sugar rush, the BL/GL was still consistently churning out new updates, and we are here with the scoop!
Why This Isn’t Just Another BL
GelBoys isn’t content to be just another Thai BL. It’s a cultural artifact, this series is a love letter to Gen Z’s chaotic heartbeat, filmed against the graffiti-tagged walls and skytrain tracks of Siam Square. With the creative team behind I Told Sunset About You and The Paradise of Thorns, it’s a low-budget revolution, proof that Thai BL can thrive beyond big studios.
This week was short and sweet as promised. I only watched 9 episodes and had plenty of time to do other things. Consequently, Chapter 2 of my interactive BL novel is almost ready to go out. In fact, by the time this is posted, it may already be available. Look for it on my social media. It is about an ordinary dude who gets thrown into extraordinary circumstances and finds a civilization in a parallel world that still lives with dinosaurs.
Surprisingly the second week of April was jam packed with new announcements from the GL world. The genre is fast evolving and close on heels to its BL counterpart. As much as we love it, it’s hard keeping up with the updates dropping left and right. But we are committed to bringing you the latest exclusives, so here we go!
This series actually has a number of different headings, but I liked this one the most. You have to search to find this gem as it is not ‘officially’ translated into English, so I am thankful for the individual who did so. Otherwise, I would never have been able to watch this. I became intrigued by the title, and it honestly did not disappoint me. It is a slice-of-life narrative with surprisingly good acting and fairly good story lines that are really cutting edge. This is an obviously low budget series, but these actors put their heart and soul into this creation. It took a rather mundane story and turned into a feel-good series. It was like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket on a cold night kind of feeling.
After The drama of The Heart Killers (เขาจ้างให้ผมจีบนักฆ่า) and the supernatural sex appeal of My Golden Blood (เลือดนายลมหายใจฉัน) I am glad to see GMMTV returning to their lighthearted roots with their newest series Sweet Tooth, Good Dentist. The Series stars Mark Pakin (ภาคิน คุณาอนุวิทย์) and Ohm Thipakorn (ฐิภากร ฐิตะฐาน) and is absolutely adorable.

The saying that ‘imitation is the sincerest form of flattery’ is not always true. This series proved that. I shall come right out and say it. This is one of the worst BLs I have ever seen and one of the worst supposed remakes I have ever seen as well. To put it bluntly, this version was fatuous. Everything about it is. The production. The acting. The story. The plot. Hardly any of it even resembles the originality of the Japanese version. That had humanity. It had heart. Most importantly, it had authenticity sprinkled with humor, grace, and tons of human emotions. I can categorically tell you that the original Japanese version of Ossan’s Love was a masterpiece. This is simply a farce. Before you start clutching your pearls and calling me names, let me explain my reasons.

I don’t remember the last time that both Mondays and Tuesdays have been devoid of BL, but after this week, that is the case. April feels a bit slow in the BL world. Right now, I’m only watching 9 series, but maybe that’s alright. I plan on writing more. I am publishing an interactive BL on Wattpad and Archive of Our Own. New chapters should come out regularly. Also, I have a BL novel in the works.
