“Runaway” is a Thai GL drama that mixes horror, mystery, and romance in an interesting way that feels authentic to watch and is exciting as well as adventurous. The story follows Winrawi (Miusic Praewa), a woman who becomes haunted by a dangerous spirit and is told she only has 168 hours left to live. As time passes, she must face her past and find a way to survive. I feel that this concept is really new and interesting as far as the GL genre is concerned. The scriptwriter and director really did well in exploring this genre, especially in a sapphic romance where, most of the time, the women are portrayed as soft and gentle.

One of the best parts of this drama is its dark and mysterious atmosphere that brings a type of thrill that it gives goosebumps. The supernatural elements make the story intense and sometimes scary, which keeps viewers curious about what will happen next. The show also slowly reveals secrets about the characters, which adds more depth to the story. I personally think it’s a craft whereby, the series director do their best in unravelling the story in slow manner. It doesn’t feel slow or boring, instead it’s gripping.

The acting is quite good, especially from the lead actresses, Miusic & Plaifah Siraacha (Boon). They show fear, pain, and emotional struggle in a believable manner, their acting and representation is well done. The chemistry between the characters also develops gradually, making the emotional scenes more meaningful, a little slow yet meaningful. The pacing can feel uneven at times, but for me, it was acceptable but upto some extent. Some parts of the story move slowly, while the ending reveals many things quickly; I was slightly disappointed as they could have kept the pacing a little even at that time. Because of this, some viewers may feel a little confused about the plot or character relationships. But at the end, they will understand the plot without issue.

Overall, Runaway is a unique Thai GL that blends drama with horror, romance, and emotional storytelling. If you enjoy supernatural stories with emotional themes, this drama is worth watching.
