Sometimes too much spice can ruin a storyline!!

“Enemies with Benefits” has a strong start, with two gritty characters fighting their attraction. The story would have been better, if they had stood their ground and fought that attraction, before succumbing to their feelings. But nothing of that sort happens, because our main couple settle into an uneasy “Friends with Benefits” relationship right off the bat. Initially, it sounds like a good idea, because they get to explore a new side without feeling the pressure of commitment. But things get complicated when one feels too much and the other feels less. The show becomes a chore in the second half, with extended plot holes that drive the narrative forward.

The Storyline & Chemistry-

Head of Accounting Wine (JingJing Prariyapit) is ruthless and known for her mercilessness. Things get interesting when the Department of Sales gets their new head, Lal (Jan Ployshompoo). When a night of spontaneity leads them to a friends with benefits relationship, they’ll do anything to keep it a secret, pretending to be enemies so that absolutely no one at work finds out. As they grow closer, Lal starts growing feelings for Wine, but she doesn’t reciprocate in kind. They often get into unwarranted arguments whenever Lal tries to bridge the distance & get closer to Wine. Wine has had a complicated past, whereby she was abused by her senior colleague, Korn (Tae Nanthasai). Things get even more difficult when Korn joins their workforce and starts manipulating Wine. Despite facing constant rejection, Lal always stands beside Wine and protects her.

Jan & JingJing have a fantastic chemistry, but the romance drags on. Wine’s insensitive behavior often grates on her nerves. So does Lal selfless nature, given the fact that Wine constantly rebukes her attempts at reconciliation.

Final Impressions

I really wanted to like this show, but sadly it failed my expectations!!

Unlike the main couple, the secondary couple suffers from insecurities and a lack of clarity. Tangkwa (Kapook Ploynira) & Proud (Ciize Rutricha) also end up together after a one-night stand, but their relationship is plagued by Tangkwa’s fears and anxiety. Either way, their progression seems more natural than the main couple.
