When a fallen genius actor and a volatile top idol are forced to co-star in a controversial BL film, their initial hostility turns into unexpected chemistry!!

This show was an unexpected surprise release, dropping out of nowhere. Even though the show is listed as Taiwanese BL, it has distinct Chinese tones. The lead actors are rookie actors. I couldn’t find their profiles on MyDramaList. But their acting talents are commendable, and it was indeed a joy, watching their characters fall in love, despite facing various trials and tribulations. Starring Alan Chen & Ray Chen in lead roles, “Dual Stars” blends emotional intimacy with industry realism, offering a character-driven BL that goes beyond fan service into themes of identity, resilience, and creative freedom.

Storyline & Chemistry-

Jian Mo (Ray Chen) was once a top star, having won the “Best Actor Award” for his debut. But he gets embroiled in controversies, after he spurns the sexual advances of an influential producer. In the present, he is unemployed, seeking jobs wherever possible. His agent finds him a lead role in a queer-themed project opposite Xu Xinglang (Alan Chen), the rising star in their industry. While Jian Mo is disciplined and idealistic, Xu Xinglang is brilliant but also volatile. As they start working, they often end up having arguments because of their differential opinions. Jian Mo gets involved in his role and is dedicated. As such, he is repulsed by Xinglang’s lazy attitude without knowing that his company keeps pushing him in unfavorable situations. While working with Jian Mo, Xinglang gets motivated and begins to improve his performances. As Jian Mo learns his real situation, he becomes more sympathetic about Xinglang’s situation. As they grow closer, Jian Mo gets embroiled in another controversy, orchestrated by Xinglang’s company. Going against his superiors, Xinglang stands beside Jian Mo, and they end up falling in love. Despite their rookie status, Alan & Ray have an impeccable chemistry. In particular, Alan Chen has impressive screen presence. He totally looks like the Korean actor, Lee Dong-wook. You will be awestruck by the resemblance!!

Final Impressions

This is one of those few shows in recent times that I thoroughly enjoyed!!

“Dual Stars” focuses on repulsive fan service while exposing the underbelly of the entertainment industry. The narrative is driven forward by Xu Xinglang & Jian Mo’s individual struggles, alongside their budding romance. We grow to love the characters, feel angry when they face relentless online scrutiny and get delighted when they start dating. “Dual Stars” is a short series to enjoy on a lazy weekend!!
