“Hometown Romance” Series Review (Ep.3 to 8)

Having patience always gives you what you deserve.― Fatma Alfalasi

Chaos ensues when a high-maintenance heiress meets a rich countryside girl. Adapted from the novel “Sami Ban Nok” (สามีบ้านนอก) by Lambo (แลมป์โบ), the show stars Lookmhee Punyapat & Sonya Saranphat in lead roles. “Hometown Romance” is a ridiculous, over-the-top love affair between two different individuals. Even though Klao is quite rich, she leads a simple life in the countryside, tending to her fields and buffaloes. Who could imagine that she would get entangled with Si, the problematic heiress to a fortune. What begins as a farce relationship turns into something meaningful when Si begins to see Klao in a new light. The eight-seater episodes were a thorough laughter riot with humorous situations and heart-fluttering moments sprinkled by. Unlike her previous shows, Lookmhee had to shed her glamorous avatar for a simple look and her ability to adapt is indeed praiseworthy.

Storyline & Chemistry-

Si (Sonya Saranphat) is an heiress to a popular department store. She is rich, spoiled and hasn’t worked for a single day in her life. Things get chaotic when her father suddenly decides to appoint her younger sister, Song (Aim Thanyares) as their company’s CEO, believing Si is too immature and irresponsible. The family business faces a crisis involving a crucial land lease renewal, negotiations fail, until Klaokawi (Lookmhee Punyapat), the landowner, makes an unusual proposal: she will renew the lease only if Si agrees to marry her. Initially hesitant, Si meets Klao & strikes a deal with her- a contractual agreement whereby they will be engaged and Klao will renew their lease agreement. If and when they get married, Klao will give the land to Si as her bride price.

As they begin to spend time together, Si starts shuttling between the city & countryside to spend time with Klao. While her parents don’t understand her, she receives unconditional love & understanding from Klao. As they get closer, Si’s ex-girlfriend Jane (Praew Narupornkamol) returns and blackmails her. Klao stands beside her throughout her problems and helps her. Si also begins to change and adapt to Klao’s simple lifestyle while planning her own business. As promised, Klao gifts the land to Si after their marriage.

Lookmhee & Sonya don’t lack chemistry, their NC scenes are also tasteful. Sonya’s comic timing plays a major role in this humorous comedy, and she is highly entertaining in this role.

Final Impressions

At times, all you need is lots of patience- to stand beside the person you love!!

Initially, Si comes across as an unreasonable and spoiled heiress. But it takes time to realize that she just seeks love and attention from her parents who used to dote on her. Klao listens to her patiently, helps her realize her potential and dreams, stands beside her whenever Si needs her. They might seem imperfect, but as a couple, they respect each other’s decisions. Lookmhee & Sonya make an adorable couple and this was their best work till day!!
