“Lost to You” First Impressions (Ep.1 & 2)

A terminally ill teenager returns home & forms an intense bond with a troubled classmate as they search for hope amid despair!!

This premise strikes a chord with you, after watching the first two episodes. This Singaporean BL dropped without much fanfare, and I was pleasantly surprised by the nuanced storytelling. You can see the hard work entailed by the cast and crew in projecting this heart wrenching tale. Starring Jia Yi & Tang Chengzhi in lead roles, “Lost to You” focuses on two lost souls who are looking for relief from their wretched lives. As their paths collide, initially it is chaotic. But as they grow closer, they learn to empathize and understand each other. The first two episodes deliver a robust storyline and the dynamics between the characters is astounding!!

Storyline & Chemistry-

At 17, Zhan Wang (Jia Yi) returns from Beijing to his hometown, carrying a secret diagnosis of terminal brain cancer. Unfortunately for him, his grandmother passed away years ago, and she bequeathed her house to the current resident, Xu Yuan (Tang Chengzhi). Their first meeting is chaotic as Zhan Wang demands the house back and Xu Yuan retorts back saying that he has no right to the house, since Zhan Wang never visited his grandmother while she was alive. Zhan Wang to a palatial villa that belongs to his father. Surprisingly, the next day, at school, Zhan Wang realizes that Xu Yuan is not just his classmate but also a top student who has been branded by the entire town as a child of misfortune. Initially, Zhan Wang rejoices in Xu Yuan’s despair, as he is humiliated on a daily basis. He even hires Xu Yuan to do the menial jobs at his home. But as they spend time together, Xu Yuan’s resilience draws his attention. Even though the entire town shuns him, Xu Yuan does his best to support his ailing mother financially. Jia Yi & Tang Chengzhi have somber chemistry. It is obvious that Zhan Wang is falling hard for the guy whom he considers his rival.

First Impressions

The storytelling is crisp, and the characters are intriguing, so quickly catch up on the pilot episodes!!

I wasn’t expecting much from a show that dropped out of nowhere without much fanfare or promotions. But it is these hidden gems that leave you spellbound. Tang Chengzhi’s portrayal of a troubled teen is heart wrenching. So is Jia Yi’s rendition of a rich spoiled kid who is lonesome and terminally sick. Just go with the flow and don’t think much!
